Tucker Carlson: MAGA and Trump Over.

Once upon a time, Tucker Carlson stood shoulder to shoulder with Donald John Trump. But even when Trump could do no wrong, and the Republican Party was under his command, Tucker Carlson, though a supporter, was not entirely taken in by the Orange One's aura. He and a few others, though they were supporters of Trump, always stood ready to advise POTUS if they thought he had taken a wrong turning. And this is exactly what Tucker Carlson did as Trump started his disastrous war with Iran alongside Israel.

Carlson, though still a right-winger who recently cut his links to the Republican Party and says he will not vote Republican in the upcoming November Midterm Elections, warned Trump that attacking Iran was a mistake and would be the end of him and the MAGA movement. Carlson said Trump is no fool and was aware that this war might damage his reputation, but still, he went into this conflict with his eyes wide open, fully aware of these consequences.

Tucker said Trump is like George W. Bush when he and buddy Tony Blair attacked Iraq. Despite any good that Bush may have done, it all got swallowed up by the Iraq War. The Iraq War is Bush's legacy, whether he likes it or not. Similarly, Tucker said, whatever good Trump may have done historically, he will only be remembered along with Benjamin Netanyahu for the Iran War.

Carlson is correct; this war has only added to the suffering of ordinary Americans who were already facing a cost-of-living crisis, and now have this war adding misery upon misery. Trump's support, according to an Economist/YouGov poll this week, was down to 37%. 60% now disapprove of Trump as the Republican Party braces for the Midterm Elections in November.

Trump has made himself look foolish on the world stage. Trump has betrayed the American people. Trump said no more wars in the Middle East. It was "America First" all the way, baby. Under his watch, it was going to be a golden age for the US. American citizens would be better off. However, Trump's unhealthy relationship with Bibi Netanyahu resulted in the ill-timed "Iran War". Netanyahu kept toing and froing to the US, convincing Trump that taking out Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would bring the regime crashing down. Just like when Hitler said, just one foot would bring the whole corrupt regime of Stalin down. Instead, Germany got involved in a stalemate war with the Soviet Union, which eventually led to Hitler's destruction. So it is with Trump in Iran, Trump thought his foot in the form of a bombs and missiles blitzkrieg would crack the Islamic regime.

Unfortunately for Trump, the regime did not collapse and fought back. Trump now finds himself in a cycle of war-ceasefire-ceasefire-war. No doubt with an eye to the Midterm Elections, he wants to extricate himself from the quagmire he and Satanyahu have created. Trump has also realised, perhaps too late, that Netanyahu is a slippery character.

Peace talks, so-called brokered by Pakistan, Turkey, Qatar, and others, are taking place in Switzerland to try to bring both sides together. Yes, a peace deal supposedly to last sixty days, known as an "MOU", has been signed by Trump and the Iranian President. Vice-President JD Vance is there along with Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner and his so-called peace envoy Steve Witkof, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. A 60-day roadmap has been agreed upon. Both sides have agreed to keep negotiating rather than walk away. An agreement to establish communication channels in the Strait of Hormuz to reduce the risk of naval engagements and to keep shipping moving. Creation of a de-confliction mechanism to stop clashes between Israel and Hezbollah. Renewed international inspections by the IAEA of Iran's nuclear facilities. Although some details remain disputed by both sides. The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has been a major focus due to its importance to the world economy.

Other issues remain to be discussed, such as Iran's uranium enrichment and nuclear programme, sanctions relief, Iran's missile programme, and the future of groups like Hezbollah and wider regional security. Basically, Vance, Witkof, Kushner, Aragchi, and Ghalibaf seem to have moved from a position of "Can we talk?" Now that position has gone to "Here is a framework for a deal". Hard bargaining if both parties can stay the course lies ahead, but the fact that both sides are prepared to invest their time in talking shows results at least.

Meanwhile, only the Midterm Elections in November will prove if Tucker Carlson is correct in his prediction about Trump and the MAGA movement.
