controversies
It seems every time one racially-charged incident ends, a gender or religious controversy takes its place; Ruminate on the issues dividing our nation and world.

Defund The Police and Its Conversation Non-Starter Problem
I have seen enough of Facebook from my friends and family, people I care about and respect, to know that the term, “defund the police” is a really poor term for the actual argument being made. It allows a knee jerk dismissive reaction from a lot of people. It allows the counter-argument to found itself on, "You hate all police officers and want lawlessness and anarchy." It invites reaction to the argument without understanding the argument and it ends the conversation.

Everyone's A Racist
The other night I was talking on the phone with my brother, a news reporter, when he asked if I wanted to hear something interesting. Me being me, I of course said yes, and he proceeded to tell me of a government agency that was only accepting job applications from female minorities. When confronted about this and asked how that wouldn't be a violation of federal guidelines against job discrimination, they said that they were just collecting the information of female minorities who might be interested in the job, and that at a later date they would be opening the same data collection to other individuals who do not fit into that criteria, and then after that stage they would be opening actual job applications to interested parties. If any of that was hard to follow, it basically boils down to the fact that job discrimination is going on (albeit in the favor of perceived minorities), and that no matter who applies and when, the company is definitely going to hire a female minority because by opening applications to those individuals first they are clearly stating that that is the sort of individual they want for the position.

The Grass Is Green, Politicians Lie and Voters Don't Fact-check
If you repeat a lie often enough it becomes truth (not to everyone but to many people). A good example of this is the "stolen" 2020 USA election lie. When it comes down to truth in politics, substituting the word "truth" for "politics" has a great deal of certainty in it. It has long been known that when politics enters the room through one door, truth leaves through another. And, personal truths, on many levels, go hand in hand with corruption.

How Florida Failed Its Citizens When They Needed Their State The Most
"We The American People"... Simply saying the phrase to yourself out loud is enough to ignite a tiny flame of pride within you. We're as tough as they come and you can bet your ass that we don't have a problem letting anyone know it. Hard work, commitment, taking full advantage of the freedom that we possess to pursue our dreams in life; to me that's literally what it means to be a citizen of the greatest country on earth. We know how to stand strong come hell or high water, we've been forced to prove that fact on several dozen occasions already. However, once in a blue moon a situation comes along that presents circumstances so difficult, that even people as tough as us Americans need help to make it through.

Bad Times for Blue-Tickers
Two things, right up front: As someone who dares to question certain commanded wisdom concerning the COVID-19 epidemic, let me just say this: I believe in the virus, I’ve gotten my first shot (that’s all my hapless Canadian government can supply at this time), and, what’s more, I am a survivor.

A GOOD JUMP SHOT ISN’T RACIST – HAVING YOUR THROAT CHOKED HELPS FOCUS THE DIFFERENCE
...because his grabbing me by the throat for using the N-word made a difference the last thirty-five years. Now, “that word” was used in a sing-song style lots of close friends did in late 1970’s college, and I did it right after one of our team’s best players used it while talking to him, so getting clutched by the throat surprised me hugely.
