There are now 5 individuals who have admitted that they took part in the riot on January 6 at the US Capitol because of Donald Trump. Dustin Byron Thompson is the latest MAGA mobster to use that defense. His attorney says he was 'duped by the president' T and this is why he participated in the seige on the Capitol. Thompson, 36, of Columbus, OH has been charged with stealing a coat rack during the attack on the Capitol. He was apprehended by Capitol Police agents shortly after the riot took place. He has been charged with knowingly entering a restricted federal building without lawful authority, violent entry, and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, according to the Daily Mail.

In the 1970s comedian Flip Wilson had a famous line where his character Geraldean said, "The devil made me do it." This way no personal responsibility was taken. The people who took part in the Capitol siege all had free will and no one forced them to take part in any of that day's activities. Making the point that they were influenced by the president will only add fuel to the fire for those who desire him impeached and never able to hold elected office again.

There are at least 100 individuals who are facing federal charges that could bring them time in prison. There is video footage of these rioters so they cannot say they are innocent. Some of those who took part in the attack on the White House are blaming other people and few are alluding to the rhetoric of former President Donald Trump as a defense. Information from the Justice Department indicates that the charges range from assaulting a federal officer, to knowingly entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds without authority.

More than 100 people have been charged preliminarily in federal court in the District of Columbia in connection with the riot, according to a list provided by the Department of Justice. The charges range from knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority to assaulting a federal officer. The most serious offenses carry penalties that will give those found guilty to up to 20 years in prison. Federal officials have indicated that more severe charges are possible and if filed those convicted will spend even more time behind bars.

The face that is most recognizable is Jacob Chansley whose image is seared in the minds of people around the world. He is the man who was shirtless and wearing a horn helmet. He has been dubbed the "QAnon shaman." According to Yahoo News, his attorney, Louisana based lawyer Albert Watkins, says he cannot dispute more than 10,000 miles of video footage where his client is shown. Watkins is also stating that the issue is not that his client took part in the riots but the fact that he and others felt a special bond with Donald Trump. The lawyer went on to say that those who took part in the insurrection felt the need to do whatever Trump told them.

Now that the dust has settled, and Joe Biden is in office it seems some of the rioters are calming down. They are realizing that Donald Trump essentially threw them under the bus and has gone back to playing golf and living at Mara-lago. There have been no news reports that indicate the former president is even thinking about the many people who stormed the White House on his behalf. Perhaps they should learn a lesson from the man they allowed to lead them down this path.

During his time on The Apprentice, Trump loved to utter the words, "Yoou're fired." When he won the election many Americans said he would run the White House the same way he operated on the television show. This he did, by firing anyone he perceived as not standing with him. In the end, Donald Trump turned on his own Vice President, Mike Pence which led to the mob erecting a noose and chanting, "Hang Mike Pence" over and over. If he would do that to the man who was his second in command for 4 years, what makes the Trump supporters believe they will be treated any better.

There will no doubt be more of the rioters who use the defense of blaming Trump. We might even see a few of them come to their senses and admit that there was no election fraud and that Joe Biden won fair and square. As time goes on and the nation recovers from the barrage of daily tweets and negative comments, perhaps more people will see the light. This will not, however, stop charges from being filed and those who took part in the riot will have to answer for their actions. We shall see how far using the defense of "Donald Trump made me do it" will get anyone.
