Is the Intelligence Community Getting Back at President Trump 'Six Ways to Sunday?'

Are spy agencies so out of control that even Senator Schumer is afraid to reign them in?

In light of the current legal proceedings involving the Trump administration, especially the "Intelligence Community" investigating alleged crimes arising from the so-called "Russian Collusion" hysteria, it's worthwhile to revisit a comment made by Senator Charles "Chuck" Schumer (D-NY) in January, 2017, even before the President took the oath of office.

During an interview with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on January, 3, Schumer responded to her comments about "shots" President-elect Trump was directing at the Intelligence Community on Twitter.

How did Schumer answer?

By saying, "Let me tell you. You take on the Intelligence Community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you."

The comment stirred some controversy at the time, but has since been more widely scrutinized for what it implies: even powerful lawmakers are afraid of the FBI and the CIA.

The demeanor of Senator Schumer as he uttered this incredible statement is even more disturbing.

Delivered in a sly, knowing tone, with everything that goes with it (except for the "Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge" affectation) Schumer was basically throwing up his hands and almost gleefully feeding Donald Trump to the wolves.

It's no secret that the Senate Minority Leader is an outspoken critic of President Trump. Some would argue he's even used his authority and legislative power to thwart the President's efforts to unite Americans across party lines. But, that's mostly speculation.

What is not in dispute is Sen. Schumer's apparent unwillingness to reign in the "six ways to Sunday" tactics the Intelligence Community may employ against their perceived enemies.

Instead of throwing in the towel, why doesn't Sen. Schumer exercise his authority to bring charges against rogue elements throughout the multitude of agencies charged with conducting lawful intelligence activities meant to protect the nation and its citizens?

As an ex-officio member of the Select Committee on Intelligence, Sen. Schumer has the option to vote on current issues before the board and the body itself is charged with the duty of conducting "periodic investigations, audits, and inspections of intelligence activities and programs."

Why aren't these unelected government entities being investigated for their "six ways to Sunday" tactics?

And, if such activities can be proven, why aren't these rogue elements not being prosecuted and jailed if found guilty?

Probably because our duly elected officials have given up trying and may fear the same retribution themselves.

In his long and, mostly, honorable career, Senator Schumer has been hailed as a "people's advocate" and a tireless self-promoter who makes regular appearances on broadcast and cable news shows covering political issues.

And, it's a rare Sunday when Schumer doesn't hold an impromptu press conference in which he touts his pet issue of the week.

In fact, one would be hard-pressed to recall a Sunday when Sen. Schumer hasn't popped up in front of the cameras in one of the 62 New York counties he admirably visits at least once a year.

Railing against inhalant coffee, sugary drinks, malt liquor, and even detergent pods has yielded little to no legislative action, but has garnered the senator untold free publicity on a day when most politicians and journalists are just kicking back.

When will he use that platform to announce the select committee will be investigating intelligence agents who have allegedly abused their authority?

As the Minority Leader with the power to look into alleged unlawful acts being conducted by intelligence agencies, Sen. Schumer is failing to act on these alluded to abuses, despite the fact he publicly proclaims their existence and practice.

It's time Sen. Schumer employs his own "six ways to Sunday" strategy at his next impromptu press conference and announce he is leading an investigation into abuses of power he apparently knows are occurring within the corridors of the so-called "Intelligence Community."
