City minds should not be allowed to govern.

The “city” type of world view, will destroy us all

After nearly 80 years of observation it has become apparent that, although there are an infinite number of stages between these two extremes, there are just two basic types of thinking. That is minds that think city thoughts and minds that think country thoughts.

City minds are restless, always seeking novelty, must have the latest gadget simply because it is the latest. City minds always seeking to exert control over everything. If they see a gate open they close it, if it is closed they open it. City minds view the environment- the natural environment; as something that only exists for their entertainment, it is a giant theme park and will be greatly improved if they alter it, make it easier to reach and change to suit their need for rest, or entertainment. A garden is only acceptable if looking neat, tidy and ordered to suit their taste. City minds think all actions should be immediate, once they have the idea it must be acted on with no delay for any reason.

Country minds and so country way of thought, works the other way round. If they see a gate that is open they automatically assume some one wants to go through it and so they leave it, if they see it closed they assume that something is contained and so they leave it. The environment is the ever changing basis of life, it is something that provides food and all necessities as long as it is respected and worked with. They know it can be destructive and has incredible power to destroy if ignored or trapped into a space, or situation that is too small. Nature is like a pressure cooker that is left on full heat too long, something has to give. Gardens are places that provide food, they show the beauty of nature, they are a home for insects, birds and non human creatures. They are places which need work, but work that is not stressful because it is unhurried, it is working with nature not against it. Country minds accept that there is a best time to act, when the seasons and weather are suitable. Action should only take place when conditions are right to achieve a desired outcome.

City thinking, views the global climate as a challenge, one that they have to beat down, control, force to their view and needs. Country thinking sees global climate as part of the globe, part of the planet. As everything else on the natural planet it is in a constant state of change. Seasons come and go weather moves, the climate changes, these are natural events, not inconveniences but part of the ambience that humans need to be in harmony with. City thinking regards night time as a period that needs artificial light to make it acceptable. Country thinking sees night time as a period of rest, a period between two day times, a time when those creatures adapted to the night, can have freedom and humans can rest.

City thinking is dangerous when allowed to govern a nation, since it sees everything in terms of what they consider to be needed, what they regard as best. Country thinking allows for a variety of views, a range of possibilities. City thinking is the basis of extreme socialism, all is subservient to some mythical perfect state. No variation is allowed, only total subduction to a plan. Everyone and everything must conform to the agenda, deviation is a crime and a sin. Total control over all the people and all the environment is an absolute necessity.

Country thinking is that humans are diverse and this diversity need only be contained within reasonable bounds, for example; killing, stealing, enforcing views on others, these can not be allowed in a free society; but freedom within these rules is welcome. They regard the natural world as a basis for humanity, that we have evolved from this natural world and are part of it, not some imposed controlling force. Country thinking requires living within the ability of the food supply, living within the ability of the world to support, feed and shelter the people.

Country thinking is reluctant to embrace “fashion” and novelty because these are enforced changes not natural ones and so they are fickle, baseless, without roots in actual need, often changing back to the same as they were at a time in the past, what is natural and sustainable about that? City thinking demands ever constant artificial change. It can not; so far; control the weather so it must control what we wear in the rain.

City thinking demands ever increasing populations, every growing production of ever more complex consumer items. Country thinking suggests we should keep populations to within what our resources can support, they consider an advance to be something that actually improves the well-being of the population. City thinking regards success as the imposition of order, the increase in financial wealth. Country thinking regards success and as a contented and well fed population with all real needs met. Country thinking accepts than change is a constant and natural part of the universe, but that change is flowing, evolving, natural; it is not change simply to add to sales figures.

City thinking demands order and conformity. Country thinking asks for the freedom for everything to co-exist in peace.

It is city minds that demand immediate action, instant reaction, to every and any event; even when rational thought suggested waiting until they have some information to act upon. Oddly it is these same city minded people who are swift to criticise any wrong actions, taken in haste before facts are certain.

Country minds prefer to wait until there is evidence, there are known facts, there are pathways to explore before acting.

City minds should never be allowed to govern.
