The Guardian got a copy of Meadows' memoir, "The Chief's Chief," which will be released next week by conservative publisher All Seasons Press. Trump tested positive on Sept. 26, 2020, three days before the Sept. 29 debate in Cleveland.

According to Meadows' book, Trump received a negative result from another test immediately after the positive one. On the same day, the White House hosted a reception for Amy Coney Barrett, Trump's Supreme Court nominee. Later, the gathering was thought to be a COVID-19 "superspreader" occurrence.

On Oct. 2, Trump and first lady Melania Trump declared they would begin quarantining after testing positive for the virus the night before - the same day White House advisor Hope Hicks, who had been traveling with Trump, tested positive for the illness.

Meadows' comments were labeled "fake news" by Trump in a statement released on Wednesday. In reality, prior to the discussion, a test confirmed that I did not have COVID."

Meadows was collaborating with the House committee probing the Jan. 6 Capitol insurgency earlier this week, potentially to avoid a contempt citation for ignoring the panel's request for papers and testimony.

The findings in Meadow's book are sure to reignite fears that Trump may have put now-President Biden and others in jeopardy during the debate, which took place just two days before Trump's declared victory.

"I don't think about the previous president," President Biden replied when asked about Meadows' book and whether Trump had put him in danger. After making comments regarding the supply chain and the holiday season, he responded to the question.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the presidential medical adviser and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was also asked whether Trump put Biden at risk at a briefing on the first reported omicron variant case in the United States on Wednesday. He didn't say anything about it, but he did say that he always advises patients who test positive to isolate themselves.

"I had no idea whether his test was positive or negative," Fauci stated.

Despite the fact that everyone in the audience for the Sept. 29, 2020 debate was required to wear masks, several in Trump's entourage refused. Susie Welty, a contact tracing expert and technical director of surveillance at the University of California-San Francisco, told USA TODAY in October 2020, "Anyone in that conference hall, quite honestly, could have been exposed."

Meadows says that despite knowing that each contender had to "test negative for the virus within 72 hours of the (debate's) start time... Nothing was going to keep (Trump) from getting out there, according to The Guardian.

Meadows writes that Trump appeared "a little fatigued" and may have had a "slight cold" when he traveled to a rally in Middletown, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 26. Meadows was "happy" with the choice to hold the rally. However, as the

Meadows says that the first positive test was done with an outdated model testing kit, and the second was done with the BinaxNOW test. He writes, "We were hoping the initial test was a false positive."

Meadows writes that after the negative test result, Trump continued "as if nothing had happened." Throughout the Pennsylvania trip, though, the chief of staff urged "everyone in his close circle to treat him as if he was positive," he writes.

Meadows claims that Trump appeared "significantly" better on the day of the presidential debate. "For the most part, his face had returned to its customary light bronze colour, and the grit in his voice had faded away, "He expresses himself in the book. "However, the black bags under his eyes had become much darker. I could tell he was moving more slowly than usual as we strolled inside the venue at five o'clock in the evening. He walked like if he had a bit of extra weight on his back."

At the debate, there were social distancing measures in place, and Trump and Biden did not shake hands. During the heated debate, though, there was plenty of bluster. During the discussion, Trump repeatedly interrupted Biden, calling him a "clown" and asking, "Will you shut talking, man?"

Trump would reveal that he possessed COVID-19 three days later.
