How Covid-19 could shape our future

Whether it happened naturally or was the result of a “divine” plan, one thing is sure…. the long-term product of Covid-19 will be sweeping societal changes that could be hugely beneficial in the greater scheme of things, or catastrophically detrimental.

Which way it goes will depend on those who draw up the map to lead us through the darkness and the designs they have for our future.

If our lords and masters are benevolent there is great scope to improve the earth that future generations will inherit, if they are not then a monstrous scenario could unfold.

As a race we all come with many flaws, with a column of pluses and minuses to our names.

For some the plus column shows many more ticks than the minus, for others there are very few ticks in the positive column at all.

Sadly those with the most ticks tend not to be the ones mapping out the future of mankind, they tend to be the ones working to pick up the pieces resulting from the mistakes made by those dictating the way the world is run.

When I look at the majority of our lords and masters I don’t see people whose plus columns show far more ticks than the minus, in fact it’s usually skewed very heavily the opposite way.

It seems to be the people with the most flaws who get to the top, but because they occupy such positions the majority tend to overlook those flaws, afraid to challenge their power.

Undoubtedly Covid-19 is bringing out the best in the majority of people, but you can be sure it’s empowering the worst to an even greater degree.

Looking at many holding the reins through this crisis, I wouldn’t trust most to lead a donkey cart… unfortunately they’ve got our futures in their hands.

There’s many things I’d like to see come out of this global downturn but it doesn’t really count for much because I have no control, but I’m pretty sure where the “Covid operation” underway in the world is taking us.

The lockdown most of us are experiencing now has little to do with saving lives, it’s far more about allowing those ultimately holding the reins to ensure they can’t be prised from them.

In order to do that they need to tighten their control over society and this is where the measures being introduced are leading.

Take a Chinese-style social credit system as the model… then that’s the way we’re headed.

Many of us can already be tracked on a daily basis through the GPS on our phones, our payments by card or withdrawals from ATMs. Does anyone accept cash anymore?

What we say and do is increasingly recorded in texts, emails and through speech recognition software. Our ability to borrow controlled and monitored by “credit agencies”.

A single monetary unit is evolving in the form of crypto-currencies and the talk now is all about a “guaranteed digital income”.

Add to that a state-of-the-art surveillance system and security devices hooked up to our doorbells and soon the authorities will know everything about us… where we go, who we interact with, and what we think.

Step on a crack in the pavement, lose 50 credits. Go outside after midnight, get stoned in the square. Wash your hands for less than 20 seconds, lose an arm.

OK, it might not get as bad as that if those in charge are decent human beings. In fact it could all lead to a better world, but with what I’ve witnessed of those in charge of the donkey carts…. I’m glad I’m not going to endure too much of the brave new world that’s around the corner.

But for generations of people younger than I, for the sake of generations yet to enter the world, now is the time to decide…. do you accept it or do you club together and try to do something about it?

Time is running out, the wheels are already in motion.
