FLORALS FOR SPRING?

No. It's a monochromatic season,actually.

Even when the judgmental fashion editor Miranda Priestly questioned with irony the usage of floral patterns at Spring stage, people still kept sticking to the idea of that groundbreaking motif as the true embodiment of the season. Often connected to the reblooming of the flora after the tough winter time, spring is described as the most gracious season of the year, where nature abandons the plaid bleach once was existent, and now embraces life through colors. Although these common misconceptions have existed in human existence for more than decades, this year things are different, with a brand new concept — monochromatic by the way. The polenous spring interpretation was out and the adherence to solely one color in, and by now, the character of such a remarkable movie for fashion lovers rests not so peacefully due to the shock noticed. When shock appears at good moments, excitement is inevitable. Surprised, but in a hopeful way, Miranda sees herself smiling in her room with the news of the monochromatic wave this Spring, but Andrea included — in Versace, by the way.

Now, as a solidified Versace icon, the actress Anne Hathaway starred for the very first time at a campaign for the Italian label, consolidating herself as Donatella's muse in an all black look from the Versace icons collection. However, since today's reality is rarely exclusive,it was little to no time until one color outfit to be seen in just one icon. Not just the Versaces ones are adhering to it,but in terms of true masters, Gigi Hadid is an expert of dominating monochromatism wisely. While promoting the second season of ‘next in fashion’ at Netflix with Tan France, the model embraced many of one color looks during her public appearances. Varying between beige, white and even full black leather matrix-like to elevate audacity, Hadid proved how to enter the game fully, and then, streets settled that monochromatic looks won. After the model's adherence,it was time for friends and coworkers to follow the one color path too. Since black became the color of the moment, other models such as Kendall Jenner during her stay in Paris and Irina Shayk recently attending Coachella chose the elegant color fearlessly as the only one of their outfits. Meanwhile some opt for the sobriety and warmth black can provoke, others prefer freshness.

From the supermodel Anok Yai in Dion lee casually posing to the musician phenomenon Rihanna wearing Courrèges while promoting her brand Fenty Beauty, the peaceful white color was the perfect choice to spread a divine aura.

With the recent points in favor of monochromatism, the past runway season serves as an example of how the dissemination of this trend happened. Because, after all, everything started thanks to some runway shows and creative minds at work. Seen either in the most bold fervent color such as in Blumarine’s FW2023 or in the basic chic in Jean Paul Gaultier by Haider Ackermann FW2023, the monochromatic looks began being rescued by some of the most remarkable designers of this generation. But, as already mentioned, there is not thing such exclusiveness in the fashion world, not even in the haute couture neighborhood. Blumarine’s creative director,Nicola Brognano, wasn’t the only one to bring enjoyment through vivid one color outfits; Olivier Rousteing is also a really cheerful person. Balmain’s visionary head decided to bring the very great pleasure in a mint-green set while honoring Pierre Balmain’s empire and giving slight nods to The New Look, now modernized. As the ontological lemma of fashion says, simplicity is in charge. Going back to black, all black looks are the key to elegance. Schiaparelli’s creative director Daniel Roseberry chose to make couture happen in ready-to-wear with the adherence of pure luxe seen in impacting outfits and monochromatic powerful ones — and Alaïa’s intimate Antwerp-located collection by Pieter Mulier too.

After runways sowed the seed of one color outfits, it was time for the streets to say that monochromaticity won. However, the trend also needed the approval of other fields. From Couture collections dictating that monochromatic was the one, Australia Fashion Week was the perfect place to show that adherence. Meanwhile some of the Resort 2024 collections, such as from the label Aje and Bondi Born opted for, majorly, one color pieces, others like to be defiant. It’s like they say, there is always some place of audacity in fashion week. From Alémais to Maggie Marylin, the audacity was illustrated through Miranda's groundbreaking enemies; floral patterns.

And, then just like that we arrived at this present where celebrities' spring garden season are found in one color only. With the seed being one, the result would be just one, consequently.

During this year's Cannes Film Festival, among many celebrities rocking the carpet with some maximalist pieces, there were some that stuck to simplicity. From Jennifer Lawrence’s custom Christian Dior Couture to Lily Rose Depp in full Black Chanel look while walking the The Idol photocall, things were pretty settled. This chic minimalism, over the eccentricity flowers can bring, made its comeback, it was little to no time until the extravagant became simple, and the mix of tones became the usage of solely one.
