Beauty Therapy: Methods of emotional healing

"Art erases from the soul the dust of everyday life," said Pablo Picasso. Probably a factor as to why they're doing so poorly in everyday life.

What is art therapy

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves art in the process of improving the emotional state of people of all ages.

This therapy is based on the belief that, by expressing thoughts, feelings, fears, desires, etc. people manage to solve their problems, conflicts with themselves and those around them, to develop their personality, to reduce stress, to build a new vision of life, to improve their self-esteem, to know themselves better or to control behavior.

The benefits of art therapy

According to a study, art therapy has helped reduce drug use and the number of people in need of hospitalization, as well as faster cure.

Art therapy helps to manage emotions such as sadness or anger but also to appreciate the positive aspects of life. This type of therapy is a good way to relax and self-knowledge, achieve the proposed goals overcoming obstacles, and develop communication skills.

Through therapy, people take care of their daily problems and manage to focus on what they are doing. This power of the mind that people develop during art therapy is likened to the meditative state and can be achieved through writing, drawing, gardening, theater, etc.

In general, art therapy is done on the recommendation and with the help of specialists because they know how to guide a patient's steps towards a safe cure. If the problems do not require the help of a specialist, they can be done in the privacy of your own home.

Art therapy methods for emotional healing

There are several exercises through which you can free yourself emotionally.

One of them is the diary. You don't have to be a real writer to be able to "paint" in words the things you feel. By writing you have the opportunity to reflect on what happened, to unload and free yourself from this burden.

Emotions can also be expressed with the help of colors. Put on paper the colors of your emotions and their shape. In the end, you will understand more about the inner turmoil that is pressing you.

You can write a letter that you will never send. It is difficult to confront people to whom you "owe" your malaise, but no one is stopping you from writing them a few lines in which you release your feelings. The goal is to repel everything you have hidden so far and it has crushed you.

You can choose to take theater classes to get into the shoes of a character with whom you can express your feelings. Anger, frustration, upset: all will give you the energy to build a dramatic character.

You can choose puppet theater classes. By manipulating puppets you can learn to express your feelings and invest in your characters the emotions you experience.

Art therapy for relaxation

If you want to wipe away all the stress accumulated after a day of work if you want to get lost in ideas and break away from the outside world, or if you need time with yourself, here are some ways to relax through art:

Get lost in the rhythm of the music and guide your steps according to the rhythm. Learn to express yourself through movement, through this beautiful art, and conquer your state of total relaxation. You can also draw to the rhythm of the music. Let the rhythm guide your brush and inspire your creative spirit.

Draw, sculpt, or model until you are satisfied with the result. Use colors that relax you, calm you down, and give you a feeling of well-being.

Draw outside with the children. Sketch a garment you would like to wear one day. Draw the house you would like to live in in the future. Write a story to give to a loved one.

Start cooking. There is nothing tastier and more beautiful than food cooked with love. Many celebrities say they cook because it relaxes them.

Therapy to achieve happiness

Art can not only help you face your fears, release your negative feelings or relax, but it can also help you reach a different threshold: happiness.

Draw the image you have in mind when you think of a perfect day. Photograph the places you like, which remind you of happy events in your life and make them a special place in your room. You can frame them and see them every day.

Write a story about an obstacle you overcame even though you never thought you could. It will make you remember how lucky you are, what are things in life make you happy, and why you should be grateful. Start gardening and make a green space in the apartment.
