Through the years our communities and our people have been affected by the use of drugs. Many people have become addicted to opioids because most of these drugs are being prescribed by our doctors. Health professionals know that most drugs that they create are highly addictive but they still sell them. Tension between the law enforcement and health professionals have been created, because not everyone thinks that drug addiction is an illness that should be treated. Opioids crisis have affected many communities, People that have been affected are trying to help others, and law makers are finally trying to help those who are drug addicts and their families.

Urban areas have been the most affected by drug use and people have no tolerance for something that they don't see as illness. Drug abuse has been seen as something that only the lower class would do and those people would be seen as “Junkies”. Through the time more people have become addicted to drugs and it has been seen in the middle class, urban areas, everywhere. Because now more white people have become addicted to drugs, people are trying to change the perspective of drug abuse. In the article “ In Heroin Crisis, White Families Seek Gentler War on Drugs” by Katharine Q. Seelye, the New York Time , Oct 30, 2015, the author states “ While heroin use has climbed among all demographic groups, it has skyrocketed among whites; nearly 90 percent of those who tried heroin for the first time in the last decade are white”. If it wasn't because white people have been affected by drug use wouldn't be seen as illness.

Citizens who can relate to others because they have or had relatives who overdose are now trying to help those who are still fighting to help those who are drug addicts. Nowadays anyone can be a drug addict and because drug addiction is not considered an illness many families are trying to raise awareness about helping those who have become addicts. Through time white families have been affected with drug addiction, they are trying to raise awareness to help others because now they can relate with those who have also lost someone due to drug addiction. According to the author of “ In Heroin Crisis, White Families Seek Gentler War on Drugs.” “ Because the demographic of people affected are more white, more middle class, these are parents who are empowered,” said Michael Botticelli, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, better known as the nations drug czar “ they know how to call legislator, they know how to get angry with the insurance company, they know how to advocate, They have been so instrumental in changing the conversation.”. Due to drug addiction in the white communities awareness for drug addiction have raised through years and thanks to this many people feel compassion for drug addicts.

Lawmakers have always been taught drug use and crimes involving drugs. Nowadays drugs that are highly addictive are being prescribed by our doctors and if a person goes to a police station with the prescription and the drug they get help, they get sent to rehab. But if a person goes with cocaine or other not prescribed drug they get sent to jill. Due to those people that have sued those companies that make and sell those drugs law makers are not only trying to change the perspective of drugs but they are also trying to help those families. The change in lawmakers in this topic of drugs is due to middle class and white communities that have been more involved in overdoses. The author of In Heroin Crisis , White Families Seek Gentler War on Drugs- A More Forgiving Approach” states “ Almost all states now have laws or pilot programs making it easier for emergency medical workers or family and friends to obtain naloxone. And 32 states have passed “ good Samaritan” laws that protect people from prosecution, at least for low-level offenses, if they call 911 to report an overdose”.

The use of drugs have affected our communities and finally now our legislators are doing something to help those people. Drug overdose should be something that health professionals should deal with because the more addicted drugs are created by them. Those companies that create highly addictive drugs should be the ones paying these people back. This topic is something that has been dealt with by the police but that now that too many people have been affected is time for health professionals to help. Yes those people who sell drugs should be punished by the police but those who are addicted need help by professionals.
