Mental Health

Mental health should be spoken about more.

So mental health has always been a very hushed topic in our society until very recently, which I personally think is a good thing. Mental health issues are anything from anxiety to depression to even schizophrenia. There is a wide range of mental health issues that people also have either never heard of or never speak about. However, that doesn’t mean that they are not just as or more important than anything like depression.

However, today I will like to talk about depression and anxiety. I personally struggle with anxiety and depression so I understand how hard it can be to try and communicate with others that don’t have these mental health issues.

Depression is like being trapped in a dark room with no windows or doors and slowly the walls start moving closer. It’s not like feeling sad every now and then, it’s constantly feeling low or worthless and sometimes not even having an emotion to describe how you’re feeling. Talking to anyone who either doesn’t have depression or has never experienced anyone around them having depression never really understands it which of course is hard on both parties.

Anxiety on the other hand, is different. Everyone thinks having anxiety means you’re just an anxious person, and yes, that sometimes is part of it but it is so much more than that. Having anxiety can completely throw you off your day, everyone is different relating to what triggers it. Anxiety is such a powerful thing because it can literally make you never want to leave your house.

Mental health in a whole is such a powerful thing and it needs to be spoken about more often and not quietly. The more people talk about it, the more people will come forward to admit they feel this way. Coming forward and having an uncomfortable conversation will help so many other people who feel like there is something wrong with them or they are the only person feeling this way when they are not alone in this.
