The Trauma Hijack
We've all heard of the fight or flight response. What's not as well known is the freeze response that's also a potential automatic response to danger. This is particularly relevant in the #metoo era to help understand people's seemingly unusual reactions during traumatic events.
Ashley L. PetersonPublished 5 years ago in PsycheLet's Be Honest, at Least, I Will
Okay, so, I'm twenty-two years old and I study all aspects of psychology at uni. Oh yes! I do psycho-analyse people. Oh no! I don't read people’s minds. I get it a lot; would you believe it?
Tessa MurphyPublished 5 years ago in PsycheThe Feeler
*face palm* This was such a poor choice for a title... The Feeler is one that understands everyone. They have a strange talent of being able to place themselves in other people's shoes. What I mean by that is Feelers can connect with people on a whole other level. What is strangest is that Feelers can connect and feel emotions on things they haven't even been through.
Losing Someone You Don't Know
When I was five years old, I lost my father to several types of cancer. Of course, I knew him, but I didn't really know him. For the last seventeen years, I have dealt with that loss of someone I didn't know. My sisters, my mom, they dealt with the loss of a father and a husband, and there's no way that I can understand the pain that they are suffering, just like they can't understand mine. It's a weird thing losing someone you don't know.

Depression is a hard topic to talk about in general. People who suffer from depression most of the time have another mental illness or disorder along with it.

After losing my daughter in January, I was incredibly lost. I know I am not the only one to lose a child, but I still felt incredibly alone. My body failed my daughter. She was perfect, and my body could not keep her in. When I learned what I have, I Googled it all the time and went to see if YouTube had any videos about it. I did find a YouTuber who had it and she said Facebook had some support groups. What did I do? Went onto Facebook and joined an online support group. Here I finally got a taste of something I needed, a community. A place where I could ask questions or simply post my feelings and I would not be judged. There were, of course, multiple regulations, such as no advice about health or medication. And of course, no cyberbullying. Just an open forum for people to talk about their experiences and ask some questions, or have questions answered. I'll admit, it was not enough. I'm usually a hermit with the occasional want to be around people.
Understanding Narcissistic Abuse
The term narcissism comes from the story in Greek mythology of Narcissus, who fell in love and became obsessed with his own reflection in a pool. In modern usage, narcissist may refer to a personality trait or narcissistic personality disorder.

I don’t know how to relax. Have you ever had anyone go to give you a neck rub or a massage and had them tell you to relax your muscles before they get started? I literally don’t know how to do that. Needless to say, I’ve been on the market for some sort of stress relief device or app for some time now.

Where Is the Mental Health Awareness in the Black Community?
Mental health in the black community is an under addressed epidemic and building an awareness is imperative. Specifically, in the urban inner-city areas. Research has pointed out that blacks are more likely to have major mental health issues than other members of the US population because blacks experience violence and traumatic situations more frequently than any other groups.

I feel this topic is becoming more and more prevalent in the upcoming days. I feel that people are starting to truly come out of their shells and say, "Hey! I have anxiety too." It's not an easy thing to say nor an easy thing to admit. It's hard because very few people understand what anxiety is truly like. Until you have anxiety, you really have no idea.
The Introvert
I've been an introvert my whole life. Even since I was a young child I remember just being quiet. Now with that being said I feel I need to clarify that there is a difference from being an introvert and being shy. It is very important to not mix these two. They are two very different people. I kept my thoughts to myself and minded my own business. For those of you who don't know what an introvert is: It is known as someone who is quiet, reserved, would rather stay home than go partying with friends, would get uneasy if they had to go into a crowd, or a busy store.
How I Got Through Depression
My trip into depression started like so many others. One little bit at a time. Seven years ago (give or take a bit), I was happy all the time. Well, not necessarily happy, but not sad or depressed.
