Institutional America, You Got Some 'Splaining to Do
A Massachusetts Murder Trial, a 37-Year Legal Echo, and the Astrology of Accountability

Thirty-Seven Years Later the Lawyer Returns
A humid August afternoon found a 75 year old attorney, Kevin Reddington in a Massachusetts courtroom. Seated beside of Reddington is a bereaved mother. She admits to killing her three children before attempting to take her own life on a cold January morning in 2023.
The legal dispute surrounding this case is criminal responsibility.
Lindsay Clancy just turned 36 on the 11th of August.
This year, Lindsay spent her 36th birthday listening to the digital trail she let behind while trying to understand what was happening to her own mind. She Googled questions about medications, hallucinations, sleep deprivation, suicide and other psychiatric symptoms.
In 1989 Kevin Reddington won the Therese Rogers case.
Rogers, 33, was accused of killing her abusive boyfriend, Walter Quinn Jr., while he slept.
Reddington brilliantly and practically persuaded the jury that the years of abuse against the 1989 defendant and her daughter had produced what was then described as battered-woman syndrome. A very unique position for the political climate, at the time. This ruling found the defendant as temporarily insane at the time of the heinous act.
Thirty-seven years later, the same lawyer is standing in another Massachusetts courtroom. Today, Kevin Reddington is asking a jury to look beyond the terrible act of Lindsay Clancy. He is asking them to carefully examine the system surrounding the woman who committed the act.
With a tip of my hat to Ricky Ricardo, "Institutional America, you got some 'splaining to do."
The Revolutionary Signature
The July 4, 1776 chart traditionally used for the birth chart for the United States of America shows us that at the time o America's birth Uranus was stationed at 8°55 Gemini and Pluto at 27°33 Capricorn.
That means that America, in 2026 is entering its Uranus return era. This transit will last for seven years, completing in 2033.
Astrologically, Uranus is associated with disruption, revolt, liberation, rupture, invention and sudden disclosures. Uranus stationed in Gemini concerns the disruption, revolt and liberation in the arenas of information, speech, journalism, documents, networks, media, testimony and competing narratives.
Astrologers note that Uranus occupied Gemini from 1774–1782, encompassing the revolutionary period, and that the current 2026–2033 transit puts America back into its Uranus-return period.
The Questions that Keep Coming Back
In 1740, America experienced a Great Awakening. America and Europe challenged religious authority. People started asking the question; "Who mediates God, your institution or my experience?
We are asking that question in 2026.
In 1776 America entered the Revolution. America challenged political authority. We began asking, “Who governs us, the Empire, or We, the People?”
We are asking this question in 2026.
This is Uranus in Gemini.
Then, in 1989, another institutional question was being tested in a Massachusetts courtroom. Can the law adequately judge human behavior when its definition of ‘reasonable’ fails to account for prolonged trauma?
We began asking questions like, "What counts as insanity? What counts as self-defense?
We are asking those questions in 2026.
This is Saturn conjunct Neptune.
Here is the mind blowing part. Ready?
Today we will use astrology to examine why the question of institutional responsibility seems to be resurfacing in a recognizable historical rhythm.
The Historical Rhythm
Uranus is currently in Gemini, echoing revolutionary-era America. But, we have Saturn conjunct Neptune echoing the system accountability narrative of 1989. Today, we have both historical signatures represented.
There are one or two pieces from each historical period that are active, simultaneously, now. But, there is something different happening in 2026. The heavens have added Pluto in Aquarius to Uranus in Gemini and the Saturn Conjunct Neptune Cycle.
Let us explore why accountability feels different now.
Let us consider the theme of systematic failure that surrounds the trial of Lindsay Clancy.
Remember, Lindsay was a labor and delivery nurse. She kept journals and diaries of her medication regimen and kept well documented records of the treatment recommendations made by the medical professionals who were assigned to follow her.
She reported that she had communicated with her doctors that she had been experiencing insomnia, depression and intrusive thoughts. Lindsay also reported to be experiencing, what she believed to be negative side effects, to the prescribed medication.
But, the medical system is a fragmented one. Especially when it comes to topics like Mental Health and Addiction. Especially!
On day 10 of the Lindsay Clancy trial, one day before Lindsay’s birthday, the testimony of her former Psychiatrist acknowledged that neither she, nor the treatment facility that employed her had the complete information from Lindsay’s other mental health providers.
The psychiatrist also testified that she, herself, also had not consulted Clancy's other psychiatrist nor the hospitals and other facilities involved in her treatment.
Should I remind you of how powerful some psychiatric medications can be?
Her psychiatrist further informed the court during her testimony that she did not know Clancy had called a suicide hotline twice.
Whatever the jury ultimately decides about Lindsay Clancy, her medical history forces an uncomfortable set of questions:
What did the systems responsible for treating her know?
When did they know it?
And who was responsible for connecting that information?
Who is Walking with the Person?
Somewhere in this story, every Social Worker in America just reached for a yellow legal pad.
This is part of the revolution written in the stars right now. System accountability.
We are exposing the fragmented nature of large systems that oversee the activities related to our basic biological functions, as humans. These are systems that resist creative solutions and hold operational procedure above human life and the human experience.
The problem does not require a villain.
Sometimes everyone performs the function assigned to them and the human being still falls through the space between those functions.
It’s time to show you what our problem is, as Social Workers.
Social workers are trained to see the human being between the systems.
Medicine has a chart. Psychiatry has a chart. The hospital has a chart.
Insurance has a record. The pharmacy has a record. The hotline has a record.
But who is walking with the person?
This is systemic failure.
The Season of System Accountability
This is the season of system accountability. Astrologically, this season of system accountability carries a more complicated, and arguably more potent, signature than the one present in 1989.
In 1989, Saturn was conjunct Neptune and both planets were stationed in Capricorn.
Capricorn is traditionally associated astrologically with institutions, hierarchy, law, government, professional authority and established systems.
In 1989, Reddington argued on behalf of Rogers and essentially said; The law’s existing model of ‘reasonable behavior,’ does not adequately understand what prolonged abuse does to the human mind.
This case became a landmark in the Massachusetts’ treatment of battered women. Rogers was acquitted by the Jury.
In 2026, Saturn and Neptune meet again. But this time they meet across one of astrology's most symbolically charged thresholds: 0° Aries, the beginning of the zodiac.
The conjunction was exact February 20, beginning a new roughly 36-year Saturn–Neptune cycle. In Aries, these planets are forming a call to action, from the institution.
In 1989 Saturn and Neptune asked institutions to recognize an invisible psychological reality. 2026 is requiring institutions to take action.
Saturn asks, “Who is responsible?”
Neptune asks, “What was invisible, misunderstood, obscured, medicated, idealized or misdiagnosed?”
And Aries demands that someone must answer!
Right now with;
Pluto ≈ 4° Aquarius, Hidden structures become visible. Which system holds the power?
Uranus ≈ 5° Gemini, Information disrupts the system. Which information was circulating?
Saturn conjunct Neptune ≈ 4° Aries, Visibility creates pressure for action. Now that we can see it, who is responsible for doing something about it?
Perhaps this is why accountability feels different now. One exposes the machinery. One circulates the evidence. One demands an answer. The revolutionary signature is present, but so is the institutional one. Uranus in Gemini does not merely revolt against power. It circulates information about power. Saturn and Neptune ask if our institutions correspond to reality. While Pluto in Aquarius asks what happens when millions of ordinary people can finally see the machinery?
Perhaps system accountability begins when we ask what happened in every room a person entered before they wound up with criminal charges. What happens when everybody inside a system does their assigned job, but the system still fails the human being?
And somehow, thirty-seven years later, that question and these planetary alignments have played their part in bringing Kevin Reddington back into a Massachusetts courtroom.
