Following Your Bliss

Is it an Ideal Thing?

‘Follow your bliss,’ they said. ‘You can’t go wrong if you follow your dreams.’

I’m here to pop this bubble and say that this is an absolute crock. Following your bliss does NOT guarantee success, just like buying a lottery ticket doesn’t mean that you’ll wake up one morning a millionaire. Sure, if you have a go at following your bliss, then do it wisely. Do not jump in head first without research, forewarning or preparation. Yes, the five ‘P’s do apply here - Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.

I have heard of people going on the whims of a tarot reader’s guidance to quit their job and follow their bliss with whatever it was to find it falling in a heap and being in a mountain of debt. For one thing, as a Divination Specialist, I am gobsmacked at any tarot reader giving such advice as it goes against every ethic that I hold as that has the possibility of causing great harm, of which is a massive no-no. For another, any such advice, no matter how prettied up it is and presented by ‘angels’ or ‘spirit guides’ is a negative message as the entities passing it on can have no way of guaranteeing success.

Any time this has come up for me in readings for clients, it always has been along the lines of: ‘I can see an opportunity for you here in this card. Is there anything you have been thinking about expanding into a business venture? If so, what is it and we can look at ways that this may come about.’ A much more tactful and accepted way than going: ‘Quit your job, throw yourself into debt and if you fail, oh well, at least you tried.

So, if you are to ‘follow your bliss’, the three questions to ask yourself are:

Question One: What is your bliss?

If you can figure this out, then you are on your way. Don’t be afraid to narrow this down as much as you like when you are looking at this. If you choose this path, you can always expand down the track. For example: Your bliss maybe crystals - but what about them? Do you want to stock and sell them? Do you want to go into crystal healing? Do you want to make crystal jewellery? Do you want to make crystal essences? See? So many options. Narrowing it down to start is essential.

Question Two: What will it take?

This is in reference to everything. Money, how will you finance the venture; Stock, what do you need to buy; Energy Expenditure, how much time you’ll be putting into it; Study, will you need to study for this; and so much more. Doing research, drawing and writing this all out is a great way to get your head around everything.

Question Three: If you have a job, will this venture require you to leave it?

This is the most important question in this regard as we all need an income. As much as I hate relying on my mundane mainstream job for an income, as there is so much I would rather be doing, including following my own bliss, this is a fact of life in this economically focused world. If such a venture would require you to leave your job then think about it and look at everything extremely carefully. Look for things like: part time study if possible; reducing your hours at work; not saying yes to every single shift you get called in for; and other things based upon your individual circumstances.

Words of Advice

To follow your bliss takes two key things: Courage and Wisdom. Courage to take the first step and Wisdom to not overstep you’re limits. So remember the Wisdom in this article of information:

  1. Narrow Down Your Focus
  2. Research and Learn All That You Can
  3. Assess Your Work Situation Wisely

Follow these when following your bliss and you may well have the best chance at success.

Good luck.
