A Neurohacking Wish List for the Stuck Entrepreneur

If I Wished for Something What Would it Be?

Fiction isn’t really my thing, but hey, I gave it a go. I saw an ad for Vocal’s Little Black Book challenge and a half price entry fee of $4.95 per month. That’s doable I thought. Boom! Add to cart! If I won the challenge a cool $20,000 could be mine. All I had to do was think of a story that included a little black book and someone coming into $20000.

I didn’t win, but the bonus was the joy I got out of writing my story and using words in a playful way. Dan the Go to Man became my conduit into my writing freedom. My man that took me from my mind into the world and allowed me to explore the human condition.

I love the psyche, both in it's light and shadows, the conditionings and the freedoms, the moments of truly seeing what weighs down and what frees.

I wove many ideas into this short story in three hours and didn’t give myself too much time for self-criticism or room to back out of entering for fear of the unknown. It was unknown Territory I would enter when I put my writing out into the world. That was the gift I found when I joined Vocal. The joy of freedom, the rush of a deadline, and the death of procrastination.

The prize immediately took me to a place of visioning. I thought how much that money could change my life at this moment in time. It would pay my bills and give me some to pour into my online business development. Perhaps I would be able to hire an assistant from Fiverr to help take care of some of the backend stuff which does my head in a little bit. Still thinking on a budget, but that is the reality. Stretch the dosh as far as I can, was, and is, the strategy.

After all, I am an artist and I want to do the creative stuff. The backend stuff is interesting but quickly becomes arduous, and to be quite honest, I feel like my head is inside a paper bag. It’s a bit stuffy in there. I want to rip holes in it, escape the stuffiness and run freely in the land of ideas. That’s me. I’m an ideas girl. They come thick and fast and if I want to keep up with them, well, I have to put my running shoes on.

I would love to be able to do everything that I consider is fun, creative, helpful, empowering, fulfilling and useful in the real world. Not just for myself but for others. When I paint, I want to add beauty to the world. When I write, I like to weave words and play with them, link ideas and create positive contributions, and not live by conventions which once again feel like the stuffy paper bag. When I create my websites I want to have the joy of creating my brand, and adding products that benefit myself and others in some way.

My mind is sometimes scattered because of this and my to do list is a mile long and grows every day. Just as I tick things off there is more to come. It is like that saying, ‘a woman’s work is never done’. A part of me likes it like that, never bored, but the things that belong in the paper bag are things that I would love to pass over to someone else, or get help to deal with. They immediately drag me down into the land of the arduous where all battles are fought, scars thicken upon my skin and the leaves fall from the trees. This land is not summer or spring.

I find that many times I have a great idea, but the paper bag is there all the time in my peripheral vision, choking up the landscape with its litter. Wouldn’t I just love to throw that one in the bin and have it carted away in the morning. But the reality is somewhat different. The contents of the paper bag need to come out and get sorted and that is all there is to it. There are many contents that hide in there, too boring or ugly to take place in my ideal world. Yet they won’t just go away on their own.

I value education as the doorway to transformation. Good education is gold. The degrees I earnt opened the doorway to work in the arts sector for many years. I am now seeing some of my ex-students move forward into their futures which is so rewarding.

I left after burnout about 6 years ago and moved toward self employment. The odd jobs I have taken on put food on the table, but they haven’t progressed me or kept me buoyant. I am the person who thought money didn’t matter. I changed my mind.

I decided to up my game and educate myself some more to get where I want to be and create a new life for myself. I have found that requires a bit of a mind reset and I need to get all my ducks in a row.

So, I look to the self-help and motivational industry to sort out what is behind my procrastination, my perfectionism, because of course the things have to be perfect when they get sorted don’t they? A saying comes to mind, ‘a job worth doing is worth doing well’. This saying is something I have been brought up with and it does me well in things that I like, but not so well when it comes to the arduous and laborious tasks in the paper bag.

Because of my current financial limitation, I do the free things online and look for the inspirational speakers, motivators, quantum leaders, clinical psychologists, hypnotists and neuroscientists to show me the way. I am looking for that aha moment that will help me sort out my dilemma which is also in the paper bag, but somehow seeps through it into the landscape of my dreams, pervading the recesses of my mind and like a ball and chain preventing me from that sprint into my future self.

Inevitably, these free things always end with something to sell, a course, a mastermind, an event. If the free thing was good and I think I would get something from rubbing shoulders with the thought leader, then I want to buy in, but at this moment I can’t.

The reasons are financial, but not entirely, as I need to complete some of the things I have started. Yet, I do think that influence is key, and the takeaways that we really learn, the things that shift our mindset are the most valuable things we could ever get from an add to cart moment. Much more valuable than any pair of shoes or tube of lipstick and believe me I love both.

Education and community are key. The fuel that drive rocket ships into the sky and that can give a bird’s eye view to the daily doings of life, and the tangle of the mind.

So, I decided to make a wish list. Facebook has generally been my discovery vehicle to inspiration. What would I add to cart if time and money were no object? Why would I add these things is another key question when considering these purchases which remain in the realm of fantasy for now.

My takeaways from the freebies however, are the things I get to put in my tank right now, and they can be good. Friendships can be made and opportunities can come out of them. No man, or woman, is an island.

Recently, I attended Tony Robbins free online five day, New Year - New You challenge which was an amazing experience, and not just the content. The line-up of speakers was inspiring. The huge number of participants from all over the world was astounding. Such beautiful humans all wanting to transform their lives and get to their next level.

The feat of engineering the technology to make the event possible was awe inspiring. I didn’t join as a VIP, but if I had, I would have been on Zoom, and one of the thousands on tiny screens surrounding the room. Tony could zoom in on anyone at any time and talk to them. He had people in their living rooms all around the world fully captivated, participating and at times jumping around to keep the energy going.

I wanted so badly to attend the follow up Tony Robbins Unleash the Power Within 3 day event which was under $300. The feeling of missing out was palpable. If I could have, I would have not only helped myself, but also helped others, as Tony used the money to sponsor meals for needy children. An honourable and worthwhile cause.

Tony has trained the best to become even better. I remember in my early 20’s someone I knew in Tasmania had attended one of his sessions on the mainland. He tried to describe how life changing it was, but I couldn’t even begin to see why someone would want to go to something like this. Where was I and what planet was I on? A question some still ask today lol.

The thing I love about Tony is he cuts through the BS quickly and insightfully, asking the right questions for people to see what is holding them back. He raises the energy of all those around him and talks about the importance of state and how to change your state, just like that. That was one of my biggest takeaways, although there were many. It is too easy to stay in an unwanted state for too long.

One of the things that became apparent from reading some of the participants comments in the feed was that so many people have been through hell and back, and those that were in the group, choose life and choose heart. Their trials have not made them bitter but full of hope. The hope for humanity is held in groups such as this (and a few others) for the changemakers and healers of the future to come forward, and that is one of the reasons why I love Tony’s work so much.

Here’s a few gem’s from Tony:

• Energy is a habit you have to practice every single day.

• The first way to get more energy in your body is to transform your physiology

• There are 2 worlds to master – the external world and the internal world

• We all have an emotional home and we don’t see it

• The quality of life is the quality of your emotions

• The head and the heart is where the whole game of life is played

the Mindhackers Highway created in Canva

Natalie Ledwell is an Australian who has created Mind Movies, the site that uses a range of techniques to transform the mind. Here’s the thing, I joined Natalie's Mind Movies about five years ago when I was also in a pretty dire situation. I have consistently ended up there from time to time throughout my life. At the time I joined I was horrified to see the cost turned into US dollars. It completely threw me and my bank account and so I asked for a refund which was promptly given.

There is a part of me that just wishes that I had bitten the bullet so to speak and swallowed the money pill. I am sure I would have reaped rewards much earlier and not stayed in struggle street as I keep finding myself. I realise this is a neuro problem that keeps reappearing from time to time, and the blocks and self-doubt that appear are just the tip of this iceberg.

When I did Natalie’s quiz on discovering your money blocks, I knew as soon as I saw mine, the old belief that money is hard to get, was my money block that kept reappearing. Sometimes the mind is like a veil that keeps you from seeing what is there all the time. It is my mission to understand the neuro working of the brain and hack mine.

The weird thing is that there are times in my life when I completely smashed it, the money block that is. When I felt in flow with my own compass. Somehow, I got thrown off course. A few hard knocks and I seem to have lost the map. The one that gives me surety and the energy to continue as the storms or lulls appear in life. I have become part of the crew instead of the captain. Surely not. I was so arrogantly sure of my direction at one point, and it was good to feel that confidence and that control over my output and energy.

Energy is the current problem as I try to keep up with the demands of life and small but physically demanding bits of work, rather than steering my own ship. This ship could do with some fuel and some cargo and I am going to choose that cargo wisely. It has to sustain me and then help sustain others. That is the goal.

So Natalie’s offer of a free 30 day trial with a money back guarantee had that in the sack. Oh yeah... I believe in learning from the best. The payment is minimal if I choose not to go on after 30 days. That's an enticing offer.

My goal is to deeper understand the mechanics of reprograming the mind and how other people who have researched and discovered methodologies that work. The old saying ‘mind over matter’ is ok, sure. That’s what we are supposed to do, but how? Create a new movie.

I understand there are many methods by which we can flip the switch. We all have different learning styles. I would like to find the unique combination that turns mine full on and allows me to help others do the same. A bump can happen to anyone, and old limiting beliefs can invade the psyche and hold us back from living our full life. Time to rewire and refire.

This brings me to Dr Shannon Irvine and her free five day The Unleashed Entrepreneur program. She is a Doctor of Neuropsychology and the host of the Epic Success Podcast. She uses the brain-based science-backed NeuroCoaching™ model to help entrepreneurs train their brains for success. Training Your Brain for Success with Dr. Shannon Irvine (eofire.com).

Dr Shannon makes good sense. Her enthusiasm is contagious and her PhD gives her credibility in the field. It means to me that she was dedicated to finding out how the brain works and how to hack it to find the success switch and turn it on. I’m not sure how much her program is or how long. But I do know one thing, I sure would want to study with her if I could.

Dr. Shannon tells us we can’t outperform our subconscious, we have to rewire it. She asks the question, do we want to keep our subconscious beliefs? Do we want to keep the thing that is holding us back? She says our brain needs to believe it, the place we want to get to, before we can see it.

She also asks the question, when you no longer believe those subconscious beliefs, what specifically becomes possible for you? She is really asking you to get specific, to get clear on what you want. She also says we have to make a decision in order to create an action. That all seems reasonable enough, but the question is how, because like she says if we knew how to do it we already would have done it.

I hope you enjoyed these suggestions. These are just a few programs I found myself wanting to join for the reprogramming experience.
