listing queerly
when asked to explain the inexplicable
the thing about queer is it's more than a sexuality or gender,
it's a declaration.
it's not just a personal state of mind,
it's a political reality.
the thing about queer is it's not a hot new trend,
it's divine being.
it isn't diversity,
it's everything.
the thing about queer is it can't be easily defined,
it's unspeakable.
it's more than an umbrella,
it's a safe home.
the thing about queer is it doesn't judge,
it exacts.
it is part calling and all intention.
queer is decision and liberation.
it is unlearning and consciousness raising.
queer isn't sub.
it is culture.
queer is revolution.
it is reconciliation.
queer is reckoning.
it is past, present, and it is future.
queer is history, and
it is potential.
queer is Truth like it was meant to be told.
it's fields of goldenrod and clover
when ashen landscapes steal spirit and
joy.
as one might consider an infant, a blossom, or any other new life,
so one must consider the boundless possibility that is queerness.
ancient and endlessly new.
forever changing.
evolving.
queer is a gift
for anyone brave enough to let it in.
it is the gift of
yourself.
About the Creator
kp
I am a non-binary, trans-masc writer. I work to dismantle internalized structures of oppression, such as the gender binary, class, and race. My writing is personal but anecdotally points to a larger political picture of systemic injustice.
