What Kind of Stoner Are You?

A big Hollywood misconception about potheads is that they all look and act like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. If you paid attention to the mainstream media, you might think that everyone who smokes cannabis has problems actually functioning. But, if you look at the statistics, stoner culture is as diverse as it gets.

Do you ever wonder what kind of stoner are you? From personal observation, here are some of the most common "labels" people tend to fit into...

The Everyday Joe

Everyday Joe's are the potheads who always fly under the radar when it comes to pot smoking. They don't dress crazy. They are accomplished people who have jobs, families, and hobbies. They're your neighbor, or your best friend.

You wouldn't be able to pick them out of a crowd, because the truth is that most pot smokers out there really are just your average run-of-the-mill person who occasionally unwinds by lighting up a joint.

This isn't a bad thing; it's a sign that marijuana is finally being accepted by mainstream society — and that more people are becoming open to experiencing the benefits of cannabis. If this is you, rock on. You're representing cannabis culture the right way.

The Video Game Burnout

At first glance, Video Game Burnouts might actually pass for Everyday Joes who just want to unwind after a day of hard work. These guys are most commonly known for playing video games and hitting the bong...but not much else.

If they're not gaming solo, they're watching TV with friends while they smoke. But, they often don't have jobs. They also might have strained relationships with parents or partners, possibly because they may be living with them.

Video Game Burnouts might actually be addicted to cannabis — or may be shut-ins due to depression. Either way, it's not a good look and probably isn't healthy.

The Urban Smoker

Ever notice how rappers manage to make smoking pot look so glamorous, edgy, and sexy? I call people who tend to get into that side of cannabis culture Urban Smokers.

They often will light up a joint while listening to hip hop, often with friends. In many cases, Urban Smokers tend to know pretty impressive smoking tricks, know fun concerts to attend, or may use cannabis for creative purposes.

Urban Smokers often have a "bad boy" or "wild child" appeal to them — and that's why few people ever make smoking pot look as sexy as they do. Don't believe it? Look at how hot rappers look when they're smoking in music videos.

The Crunchy Hippie

Crunchies, as some might know, are the folks who live organic, all-natural lifestyles with a strong emphasis on healthy, eco-friendly, and possibly spiritual ties. Most often, they're also very Hippie-like when it comes to ideals.

There's a reason why the hippie culture of the 60s was so closely tied with weed — and why people still think of hippies when pot smoking becomes a subject. If you're an older person from the Flower Generation, or if you just love the Crunchy lifestyle, you're a Crunchy Hippie Stoner.

Hippies, it should be noted, are a major reason why marijuana awareness turned mainstream. So, props to you, Crunchy buddies!

The Electronica Hippie

Is Burning Man where you wish you could always be? Do you eat, sleep, rave, and repeat? Then you most likely also enjoy using cannabis from time to time — as well as other things, possibly.

Electronica Hippies are pure free spirits, and tend to have very "psychonaut" approaches to drug use. Even so, they're also well-versed in the benefits of whatever drugs they're taking, as well as the risks of taking them.

For an Electronica Hippie, lighting a joint is a great way to enhance any party. And, if they're not at parties, they may just enjoy lighting a joint to wake and bake.

The Medical User

The benefits of medical marijuana are many, and that's why there are so many medical users throughout the United States. Marijuana, whether the FDA wants to admit it or not, is good for you and can provide a lot of benefits that Big Pharma can't.

Medical Users often rely on cannabis to keep up a certain standard of life, alleviate pain, or help curb epilepsy. Due to their need for the herb, they often are the most vocal activists when it comes to legalizing medical marijuana.

This is totally understandable and extremely respectable. After all, no one wants to be a criminal just because they want to be healthy.

The Curious College Kid

From what I've seen, a lot of people will smoke pot during college then slowly taper off as they reach adulthood. Call it the "experimentation years," or just call it smoking as a way to fit in, Curious College Kids are one of the top groups of marijuana users out there.

At times, you can see them in full stoner action — even when you are not on a college campus or invited to their homes. They're most commonly seen at Chipotle, White Castle, or Taco Bell at 2 AM. This is their natural habitat, and that's okay.

The Cringe Stoner

Cringe Stoners are the ones who tend to make everyone else look bad. They're the ones who are covered head-to-toe in cannabis leaf couture, will regularly post stuff on Facebook about smoking, and do whatever they can to show that they are "edgy" by smoking.

Most of the time, Cringe Stoners stop being Cringey after high school, or after their first possession arrest. However, once in a blue moon, you'll find one who's 30 years old and still is shocked that police somehow know that they might have pot on them.

The Creative

Creatives are known for their drug use and alcohol use — and there's a reason for that. Many cannabis strains are known for improving creativity and thought. That's why many authors write books while stoned, why so many bands smoke pot when writing songs, and why artists tend to do their best work baked.

The arts communities tend to just take smoking pot as a fact of life. As long as it helps them work, who's to judge?
