Signs You Might Be Allergic to Weed

Feeling wonky after a smoke session with friends? You might be allergic to weed and not even know it!

There are a lot of allergies out there that most people don't ever really consider possible. For example, there are people out there who are allergic to spinach. But, some allergies are stranger and rarer than that. Some people are allergic to water. More have allergic reactions to perfume.

Others are even allergic to weed.

As bad as it is to hear, it is possible to be allergic to cannabis. Usually, the allergic reaction isn't that bad, however, in some really bad cases, it can be potentially lethal.

Now that more people are open about marijuana use, doctors are uncovering more marijuana allergy cases. If you've been feeling a bit off after hanging out with your pothead buddies, you might be allergic to weed. Here are some key signs that your "wonky" feeling might actually be a cannabis allergy in disguise.

You have a really hard time breathing around cannabis smoke.

One of the most common signs you might be allergic to weed deals with breathing difficulties when you encounter pot smoke. After all, most cannabis contact is via inhalation — and, when you inhale something you're allergic to, you tend to have a harder time breathing.

This goes beyond the usual rough cough of harsh chronic. If you find yourself having a wheezy inhale whenever your friends pass a joint around (without you even hitting that), it's possible that you might be allergic to weed.

To a point, these allergy symptoms need to be taken with a grain of salt. Coughs might just be due to having very harsh inhale, or due to the fact that you're just not used to having an unfiltered pipe. These things can and do happen.

On the other hand, heavy, hacking coughs and sneezing? A constantly drippy nose when you're near pot? Well, that could be your body's way of telling you that you might be allergic to weed, and that you need to be aware of it.

When you eat edibles or smoke, you develop a rash.

Rashes are a pretty easy-to-spot sign of an allergic reaction. In fact, they're often used in comedy movie scripts because everyone knows that rashes tend to mean allergies.

If you feel intensely itchy or notice that you're breaking out in hives after a smoke session, you need to stop smoking immediately. Why? Because this is a classic sign that you might be allergic to weed — or something you ingested along with it.

In most cases, one of the benefits of medical marijuana is that you end up getting less migraines and headaches. You may have a marijuana allergy, though, if you find yourself feeling congested to the point of getting headaches after being exposed to the Mary Jane smoke.

Smoking makes you feel irritable, cranky, and sleepy.

Some marijuana allergies are actually way more subtle than you'd think. Usually, when people who have a weed allergy smoke up, they just feel sleepy and "under the weather," rather than outright sick.

A good way to find out if it's just a bad cannabis strain or an allergy is to see how your body reacts to other strains. If you find that you always feel sick, then you might be allergic to weed.

If marijuana doesn't agree with your system, there's not much you can do to help it. Sadly, this means edibles like Burnie Brownies and other goods are off the table — at least, for now.
