CBD Oil for All Skin Types
Explore what CBD can and can’t do for your skin
The market for CBD is ripe after industrial hemp was legalized in all 50 states. This means that all uses of hemp, though not cannabis, are legal. CBD is one of the major cannabinoids found in hemp.
If you’re worried about getting high, don’t be. Hemp contains a very small amount of THC, the compound associated with the “high” that cannabis produces. What little THC there is in hemp is counteracted by CBD.
It seems that everywhere you turn these days, there is a new CBD product. From dietary supplements to CBD-infused chocolates to CBD-infused coffee and teas. Even skincare products. CBD may be useful for a lot of things, but skincare? Before you go out and buy that expensive anti-aging serum infused with CBD or try out that new acne-busting facial wash that touts CBD is the cure-all, get out your vape pen and let’s explore what CBD can and can’t do for your skin.
CBD Oil Refresher
Cannabidiol, commonly abbreviated as CBD, is one of the primary cannabinoids found in cannabis species. It is found both in the marijuana and hemp, but hemp contains much more CBD and only a fraction of THC. Cannabidiol has been shown through both research and anecdotal evidence to be powerful anti-seizure medicine. It also has powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and pain-relieving properties.
CBD and Hempseed Oil Are Not Interchangeable
Manufacturers know that CBD is big, but unethical manufacturers will sometimes substitute CBD with hemp seed oil, which contains no CBD. Hempseed oil is amazing as a moisturizer and as cooking oil, but that’s about all. It is really good at helping your skin; it won’t clog pores, and it is high in antioxidants and Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. But it’s not CBD.
CBD for Anti-Aging
Dermatologist Debra Jaliman says that because CBD oil is packed with vitamins A, C, and E, it’s great for anti-aging properties. Vitamin A helps the cells that produce the tissue that keeps skin firm and healthy. Vitamin C stimulates collagen production and helps to reduce the signs of aging. Vitamin E blocks free radicals which are responsible for aging skin. Check the ingredient list to see if the product has CBD along with other ingredients like retinol for the best results for busting wrinkles and other signs of aging.
CBD for Acne
Numerous studies indicate that CBD is a powerful anti-inflammatory. This means that CBD can help to calm skin, particularly acne-prone skin. CBD also has the potential to decrease excessive oil production, which combined with inflammation can cause acne breakouts.
CBD for Sensitive Skin
CBD has substantial soothing abilities. It can help to minimize issues that are related to skin irritation, including redness. A CBD-infused product, like a moisturizer or lip balm, can go a long way towards soothing skin irritated by a person’s environment.
CBD for Skin Irritations
Because of CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties, there is some indication that it can be used on skin that is prone to eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. Because it also has anti-bacterial properties, CBD can help people with these conditions.
CBD Is for Hair, Too!
Hair is made from the same cells that our skin is made of, so CBD can help with hair issues, too. CBD can help to stimulate hair growth by allowing the scalp to absorb all of those beneficial fatty acids. It also helps to moisturize the scalp, which can help people who are prone to dandruff.
While more research and clinical tests need to be completed, if you’re using a CBD skincare product and you love it, there’s probably no harm in continuing to use it. If you are interested in CBD skincare products, always check the ingredient list to make sure it contains CBD or cannabidiol.
Always follow the manufacturer’s directions on the label. Because CBD is absorbed by the skin, you do not want to use too much until you know how CBD might affect you. Start with the minimum dose and work your way up until you get the effect you’re looking for.
