Your House Was There

...transience in a throwaway age

Your house was there between two poplars

You were there, shooting baskets in the heat

The sun always shining on this carefree street

The paperboy pokey - sitting on the curb

With a bag of news and wiping his brow

Delivering news that means nothing now

Your house was there but it's not there now

A few cardboard boxes sit soaked on the lawn

To wind up recycled or resolved back to dust

Your house was there and now it is gone

The space left behind can be bought for a song
