Based on a challenge from the Daily Prompt App, the challenge being creating a poem titled You Never Asked, But

You never asked,

But the unkind words

Spoken in a time

Of grief

Were like a

Punch in the gut.

You never asked,

But words pierce

Sharper than

A sword.

You never asked,

But kindness

Goes a lot further

Than unkind

Words.

You never asked,

But grief does not

Always look the same

So please don’t tell me

When and how to grieve.

You never asked,

But there comes

A point when

I shut down

After being nagged

At all day.

You never asked

But I’ve learned to

Forgive

And I’ll be civil

But sometimes

You just have to

Step away.
