Woman is a Phoenix
Woman, as painted by man
In hues of gray, a bird
Of smudged-ash plume
Caged and chained
Feathers clipped
So she can’t fly
But what man does not know is
Woman is a phoenix
Just as her soul is about to die
Fading from all her brokenness
A tear is shed and it
Is that spark that
Bursts her into flame
Reborn from fire
An exquisite creature
With wings of purest gold
Soul ignited with a second life
Now painted by the sun
I marvel at
Her newfound grace
Her beauty and her power
And I desire that same freedom
So I stand, poised
On the dawn of my rebirth
Waiting for my turn
To burn
