A poem

i sit here

in the quiet

of the night

and reminisce

as a decade of

my life comes to

an end.

a small death

a small victory

*

i think of the ride

its ups and downs

the laughter and the tears

but the parts i remember most

were those soft moments

in the dim light and drunken haze

with those lovely creatures

who chose to be there

with me

when they could have been

anywhere else

*

of all shapes and sizes

of different tongues

skin and mind

of different humour

passion and want

but always the same

tenderness

the same wonder and look

in their eyes

be they brown green or blue

i remember them eyes

and the tenderness of it all

in that dim light

*

and as i remember them

i naturally wonder

if they remember me?

and how they made me

a King

in those soft moments

"i naturally wonder if they remember me? and how they made me a King in those soft moments" This is full of melancholy and my heart is aching. The nuance of emotion throughout is just sublime. I can't quite put into words, here, how absolutely stunning it was to experience it. Beautiful work, Dean. This is a poem I can see myself coming back to time and again.

Dean, this was a breath taking piece full of raw emotion. These lines really spoke to me “as a decade of my life comes to an end. a small death a small victory” such a well said phrase and it rings so true. It calls to mind how the something ends in your life there is always that bitter sweet feeling afterwards. So well written!

Breathtaking. I could feel that longing to just live in those bright moments of the past for a bit. They remember. A truly lovely piece.
