A time will come when you'll know the real me

and not just the shield I put up to be what I wanted to be

And when that time comes it'll be for you to decide

on how hard and fast you want to ride

***

Life, it'll take you for one, so hold on tight

and remember always it's not just about the biggest dog in the fight

It'll knock you, kick you, and beat you til you bleed

so remember that violence is there but wait until it's what you need

***

Find someone with whom you share something to walk this life with

and give them everything that you possibly have to give

Love long and hard with no regrets

maybe when you're old and alone you won't forget

***

Find solace and peace in those things that matter

hard work, family, and friends will keep days from being sadder

There will be sad days, that much is for sure

because so little about this world remains untainted or pure

***

You'll face heartaches nobody prepared you for

and they'll be painful enough to drive you to a hug waiting at my door

It'll be those days that you'll really understand who I am

and you'll understand I took what the world threw, the best that I can

***

One day it'll be you sitting in my chair

the wisest among us will finally be there

And when that day comes you'll know what you've done

and you'll know how proud of you I am, my son.

***

When you need me, just look up at the sky

but promise me you'll spare me seeing you cry

Good luck kid, I'll see you on the other side

Now show that bitch called life, you learned how to ride
