Deer-in-the-headlights look on my face

I stand and stare at you

The gravity of the words

I just spoke

Crashing down on me

The realization

Of what I just asked you

Dawning on your face

Fear sinking into my soul

You open your mouth to speak

But no time to let you say it

My mind racing…

1. PANIC! PANIC! PANIC! WHAT DID I JUST DO?!?!

2. Must think. Must think. Ah, I know! ESCAPE!!!

3. Just run for it. Don’t look at anyone. Whatever you do, DO NOT LOOK BACK! Get as far away as you can. Keep running and don’t come back.

4. Drop out of school. Quit my job. People are going to be talking about this for the rest of time. Oh God, the embarrassment! I can never show my face around here again.

5. Hurry home and stuff my belongings into suitcases, grocery bags, or whatever I can get my hands on.

6. Say, “Goodbye,” to my family. They ask, “Where are you going in such a hurry?” I answer, “Can’t talk. Can’t stay. Got to get out of here.”

7. Skip town. Change my name. Maybe even leave the country.

8. Go off the grid. Live in the forest. Fly to the moon. Completely disappear. Never see civilization again.

9. Forever wonder what your answer would have been.
