Dance Flu, Flutter Dreams
songs to give you excuse
to do what you do, when it feels like it seems
to break, with sobriety, your truce
to feel your shoulders, a mystery's hands
to feel your waist, a surge of power
to let go of restraint, and half of your plans
to dream of release for one hour
But one turns to two, turns to 28 months
and who can restore you your youth?
you swung with so little, like baby girl bunts
but you smashed through the gates which hold truth
and now you are older, your womb bears its scars
your mind and your heart wear them likewise
you no longer dream of long trips in safe cars
and you've come to despise your own thighs
and she who hates what she'd done her own soul
is she who will hate other's laughter
so stop if you can, all this dance, all this toll
and remember what when child you were after
for innocence comes and frenzy gets blocked
and sometimes heaven relents
and restores what you've lost, puts more time on your clock
if you turn and remend boundary's fence
