White Culture

Because it's a real thing

Trigger warning for racism, sexism, terrorism, ableism, transphobia, body shaming, climate crisis, existential crisis, abuse, child molestation, STDs, and pregnancy-related deaths.

Also contains crude language and other forms of direct speech.

I do not explicitly address physical abuse.

I shall also add that the White or the "You" described in this prose is the cliché of the Settler White Person that grew to show every fault that the colonialist system has taught them to have. In no way, then, I imply that all white people display those faults. If the shoe fits then, yes, you are being personally called out and I hope this text inspires you to grow.

Now, please enjoy :)

I can tell there is something alike from a White to another.

Some common ground, common beliefs that link them together.

They grew up with the media insisting on the existence of a (pale) God above,

In families and neighbourhoods that believe they have a right to shove

Centuries of abuse down their children’s throats and then call it “Love.”

White culture is being blind to the privilege and to the power you hold

When you speak up and go swear on your name, your household,

Swear that that non-white was too bold, too cold,

When they tried to push a mirror in front of you and fumed, “Look at what I hold.”

“One of your tears deserves a stage while my screams should be controlled."

"Can't you see? You have gold. You fit the mould”

White culture is that.

White culture is telling women to be obedient

And teaching men to be violent.

White culture is pitying the ones that kill like brats

Rather than those who get treated like rats,

Slaughtered like rats.

White culture is craving, drooling for movies that picture that.

White culture is inventing facts to “make things easier”

Because trying to understand was never a habit of your ancestors.

Wonder no longer why your president is a jester:

You’ve always preferred supporting child molesters, sexual predators.

That’s normal. Way more normal than any non-binary genders.

White culture is finding ways to murder

The differences instead of, to the mind, making them clearer.

White culture is that.

White culture is capitalism.

It’s selling food to the hungry while boasting about altruism.

It’s selling “laws for the betterment of the country”; just disguised racism.

It’s selling “protection of future workstations”; simply covert fascism.

It's selling, selling, selling.

Buying, buying, buying.

The salad is popular although pricey,

“Make it tidy, classy and non-spicy!”

White culture is to accept other cultures only as long as you are given a good dinner

But from the native recipe, it must differ.

You choose a cook on the menu like “No-accent? That’s a winner.”

Don’t want to eat with chopsticks; you want a spoon of silver.

Words you don’t get fly around you, it feels like a thriller.

No one fits your beauty standards, no one you would even consider.

You don’t know how they live with that face, wish they would be skinnier.

You ask yourself: “How have I been here for an hour?”

“With music made by a *insert racial slur*”

And here I’m kinda reminded of Hitler?

White culture is that.

White culture is teaching the youth to hate their body.

It’s depriving them of sleep and filling their stomachs with coffee.

It’s making them pay for access to professionals in medicine and psychology.

And you wonder why they can’t get rid of their anxiety?

White culture is not teaching the youth basic sexology.

It’s guilt-tripping your child when they catch an std

Although the education you gave only talked about abstinence.

“But it was never into her and I pulled away in advance!”

It’s sending your daughter to death at first glance

When her belly is slightly too big for just a simple romance.

White culture is ableist.

It’s doubting that someone born with lesser chances even exists.

It’s putting down efforts to persist.

“They are just stairs.” You ask why we’re pissed.

Our pain is too great, there’s a shift we’ll have to miss.

But then our reason gets dismissed.

White culture is the fact that you insist

On believing disabilities are a myth.

White culture is turning a blind eye to the future of your kids.

Turning a blind eye to the points they make because God forbids

You must detain the authority

And that even if they make a point on ecology,

Even if they are crying for your help:

“I can’t see my future!” It’s heartfelt.

They are drowning in debt.

All the icebergs melt.

They are growing too fast, faster than you expected.

That’s what happens when one feels unprotected.

You were the one by whom they were supposed to feel accepted

But that’s hard when knowing who you’ve elected.

White culture is that.

White culture is a history of colonialism and imperialism that lead us to the disaster that reigns to this day.

It’s the belief that what you preach has more validity than even what a specialist might say.

It’s letting history repeat itself- It’s making history repeat itself by building walls and concentration camps and shouting terrorism filled sentences without anyone stopping you because you were born with privilege because you are the abuser that will always have a justification.

That is white culture.

It’s nothing to be proud of.

Disclaimer

I do not actually believe there is such a thing as "white culture."

What I wanted to display here is merely an amalgam of experiences from all around my circle and myself. My goal is mainly to shed light on the many injustices of our society, injustices I have witnessed first hand or second hand, and on the various realities the media won't talk about.

History is repeating itself: there are still concentration camps in the world (and yes in "developed countries"), ICE is a threat, many citizens of "developed countries" still don't have clean water, children need sex education, reproductive rights are human rights, disabilities are real, climate change is real, and there are people in control of all of this that are not doing anything.

By addressing these issues, we strengthen the possibility that one day we will be able to reach people that actually have the power to make a change.

I always feel like there are more things I should have addressed but this is all my brain could give me for the moment. I’ll go give it some rest.

Take care of yourselves <3
