Where Was The Love

Mom, Why?

By C. D. GuzmanPublished 28 days ago 1 min read

Mom, why did you let your father hit me, yell at me, pull my hair, slap and cuss me? Why didn't you stand up, why didn't you fight, To protect your child, to make things right?

In the darkness of night, when the shadows grew tall, I cried out for you, but you did nothing at all. His anger was fierce, his hands were like fire, Every strike, every word, a cruel, burning pyre.

Each tear that I shed, each bruise that would swell, Was a silent scream, a personal hell. I looked to you, Mom, for comfort, for care, But all I found was an empty stare.

Why did you stand by, in the deafening silence, Watching your child endure such violence? Why

didn't you shield me, why didn't you act, To stop the torment, to take me back?

His shouts would echo, his grip would tighten, My heart would shatter, my spirit would frighten. I

needed your love, your strength to defend, But you let it continue, time and again.

Every slap was a plea for you to see, The pain and the fear consuming me. But you chose to ignore, to turn a blind eye, Leaving me wondering, and asking why.

Mom, where was your love when I needed it most? Why did you vanish, like a forgotten ghost?

In the tears of a child, you should have seen, A desperate need for a shield, for a queen.

Now I carry the scars, both hidden and shown, A reminder of a childhood, where love wasn't known. I search for answers in the memories we share, But find only questions, lingering in the air.

Mom, why did you let your father hit me, Yell at me, pull my hair, slap and cuss me? Why didn't you stand up, why didn't you fight, To protect your child, to make things right?
