What Waits Ahead

Don't Look Back

**

Dressed up in daring

with a smile on her face

Her past was despairing

so, she had it erased

Fed-up with the what-if's

that only got in the way

Like a crime with no prints

she made her get away

A souped-up GTO

blacked out, with chrome rims

and a little black dress, to forget about him

Her future is brighter than

the sun after an eclipse

She's sporting a tan

and red gloss on her lips

Her new attitude

the devil may care

And she had that tattooed

on her neckline, up under her hair

With a new lease on her life

and the wind covering her tracks

She left it behind

and she's not looking back

Soooo inspirational and powerful! Loved your poem!

  • The devil may indeed care, assuming he's the one you left behind. But it won't do him any good. You've got this, Kelli! BTW, beautifully expressed in your poem.
