What My Father Taught Me

Acrostic poem encapsulating what my father taught me

By Jessica WolfPublished 2 years ago 1 min read
Photo of my Dad and I a couple years ago

What did my father teach me?

How to check my tire pressure

Ambling in nature for leisure

Through is the only way

.

Marvel at the Earth each day

Youth is for making mistakes

.

Focus in order to understand

A man and his motorcycle—quite grand

Takes one to be friendly

Hesitation can be deadly

Easier to ask forgiveness than permission

Revel in your ambition

.

Trivial days fade faster

All it takes is one disaster

Use the tools you have properly

Genius is fatherly

How to brew homemade beer

Talent always beats gear

.

Mother knows best

Evening, time to rest

.

Ah yes, not to forget the lessons (conveniently made into helpful acronyms) that didn’t make it into my poem but are definitely ingrained in my brain…

“D.B.A.M.”— Don’t be a moron!

And the much rarer, more earned…

“S.B.A.M.” — STOP being a moron!

Both of these excellent mnemonics were invented by none other than my Dad! :)

And one more lesson that deserves an honorable mention:

Always wear a helmet.
