What If?

What if the Earth had a mind of its own?

What if the Earth had a mind of its own?

Only one of its kind.

In essence, alone.

So, it did not mind at first to share,

It's beautiful existence.

It had space to spare,

And it did not fear,

The new creatures to be,

They only used what they needed,

And then they let the Earth be.

They lived their lives,

To no surprise,

Never forgetting the Earth was key.

And because of the Earth,

They were well-supplied,

So the creatures greatly multiplied.

And many did not see eye-to-eye,

Things began to change.

Some took more than what was needed,

Built great kingdoms,

And maltreated,

The Earth as if it were not needed,

By anything but them.

They went on to enslave their brothers,

Conquer their fathers and curse their mothers.

Forgetting that they once needed each other,

In order to survive.

And when I say survive,

I do not mean just to stay alive.

I mean further than that,

I mean to thrive,

Morally, emotionally, socially,

Humanity took a nose-dive.

The beautiful Earth with its far great potential,

Continued to be stifled by things inessential.

So much so that it's future was threatened,

And the creatures could see it but instead they chose to pretend,

They saw the Earth as an object and not as a friend.

They took and they took and forgot to give back,

They poisoned the sky and made the ocean's turn black.

They chopped down Earth's trees,

Endangered the bees,

And built nuclear weapons to bring each other to their knees,

All while ignoring the Earth and its pleas.

So, what if the Earth one day took it all back,

And banished the creatures who set it off track?

What if it decided no longer to share,

It’s beautiful land and its wonderful air?

Then what on Earth would humanity do?

Nothing.

Without it,

We’re through.

The Earth is our home,

We must treat it with care,

We must do better if we want to live here.

We must make things right,

This is a sign,

We can do it together,

One step at a time.
