I cannot help but stop and look at the silly charade.

Down, down, down into the darkness of the charade,

Gently it goes - the foolish, the featherbrained, the undignified.

I cannot help but stop and look at the liberal entertainer.

An entertainer is progressive. an entertainer is liberalistic,

an entertainer is broad-minded, however.

One afternoon I said to myself,

"Why isn't the broadway more small?"

Does the broadway make you shiver?

does it?

I saw the the wooly individual of my generation destroyed,

How I mourned the actor.

An actor is woolly-headed. an actor is muzzy,

an actor is addled, however.

A clowning, however hard it tries,

Will always be clever.

Down, down, down into the darkness of the clowning,

Gently it goes - the ingenious, the cagey, the adroit.

The comic that's really clever,

Above all others is the comedienne.

Are you upset by how smart it is?

Does it tear you apart to see the comedienne so canny?
