We're all masking, and quite well
...underneath... a radical undoing
We are all masking, and quite well.
Underneath the surface - a radical undoing.
Pills by the fistful keep us here. Help us stay.
Boots on the ground, eyes in the room.
We ignore an invitation
to the very center of ourselves;
and choose to stay out
of the frame in our own lives. To sit in the theater, not star in the show.
Our histories are in the drivers seat. Unbuckled. Our traumas keep both feet on the pedals. First one, then the other.
Each day, embraced by heartbreak, more and more, we become friends
with our fading light.
