We Meet at Night

Outside of Dreams

By Amos GladePublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

When asked if I’ve been seeing someone,

I always reply ‘yes.’

I think of you and wonder if you’re patiently waiting for me.

At home,

all alone,

watching the door,

hoping,

will I return?

I always do.

I am your world.

I can’t escape.

What I imagine.

I hear you chew.

Your claws unfurled.

Claws that scrape.

Much to my chagrin.

Because you’re always here or sometimes there,

Or, damn it. Just outside my eyeline.

When I sleep and go real deep,

My muscles become rigid.

Now’s your time, your time to creep.

The temperature is frigid.

This is when we finally meet and look each other in the eye.

My heart, it thumps for only you,

It hasn’t made an error. No.

I love you,

my night terror.
