Waves of Depression

The mental storm

Depression is being in the ocean.

The waves are swirling around you.

You can see the beach and people are having fun there.

But you can’t seem to get enough footing to join them.

Sometimes it is calm and you can almost make it to the beach.

Other times it is a tsunami and you can’t keep your head above the water.

Someone please save me.

But nobody comes. Because they don’t know you are in trouble.

You look like you are keeping your head above water just fine.

So you struggle alone.

Soon the waves recede and you are left treading water again.

It’s hard. Everything hurts. But this is as good as it can get.

So you watch the others on the beach.

Maybe you’ll make it there some day.

But today you’ll just keep moving.
