Been very frustrated with the coverage of the situation in Gaza by several American news outlets, especially during these past few months.

We are, quite bluntly, seeing the suppression of a genocide by American media. It is so evident. This terminology so many use to describe it—“the war on Hamas” or “the Israeli-Hamas war”—is misinformation within itself; it implies a war on equal footing. This is not the case. Palestinians have been subjected to living in an open air prison for well over a decade now. On October 7th, more than 1,000 Israeli lives were tragically lost—this is true. As of today, over 34,000 Palestinian civilians have been killed—this is also true. The numbers are out there, and they are staggering. This is not a war on equal footing.

Though unsurprising, it deeply disappoints me to see American journalism completely bow to Zionist propaganda and to psychotic Netanyahu. I understand the centuries-long complexities of this conflict and the complexities of long-lasting alliances with other nations, but there is no denying at this point that this is an active genocide, one that American politicians and journalists want to float under the radar. Thousands and thousands of innocent Palestinian people have been murdered, including many children. A very large population of the country is under the age of 18. It must be talked about bluntly, critically, and honestly, and it isn’t. Not by the media.

Do better, America.

You are not alone in your frustration and righteous indignation. We must continue to fight for what is right and just. On my 'bleakest heart days' I remind myself that the Palestinian people will never give up, so I shouldn't either. To freedom and justice!

Agree with Hannah.I feel that atrocities are that , no matter the situation...and ordinary citizens have suffered for political bigotry.Interesting read,Angela.

I suspect the UK media is doing slightly better than the US media. It is a massively complex issue, and it feels like neither "side" can be seen as "right", but there is just no denying atrocities, regardless of the politics. Things are happening which shouldn't happen, even in war. I can see there is a useful distinction between Hamas and Palestinians in terms of separating the leadership from the people, but, as you say, it also disguises the presence of the people, too.

  • All those who are directly and indirectly involved in this whole affair to whatever degree should not call themselves as humans! They're worse than animals! Scums!

What a bloody mess. Why can’t we just fix things without war.

  • Hats off to your contribution to mitigate the war. Yeah it is a contribution!

I hope the war can stop, the war is detrimental to all, loss of property, lives, like our country used to be, colonised by the Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese and allies. And we became independent in 1945 until now.

This is truly misinformation to feed all the anti-Semites and Judeopaths. There is no genocide and all deaths are caused by disgusting Hamas and their minions who use their own civilians as human shields and want to annihilate Israel, who has the most humane army on all human history. Hamas supplies the numbers that you quote, that even the awful UN has revised and halved. One should not write about such a subject before finding out the truth, especially that most Palestinians are for Hamas and have celebrated the abhorrent massacre of over 1,200 Israeli civilians.

Thank you so much, Angela, for writing on such a sensitive and pressing content. It is severely disappointing to see Western media completely bow to Zionist propaganda... and even more depressing, knowing that the US will not compromise on this due to their alliance with Israel, and the fact that they are supplying arms... It's infuriating. As we enter Pride Month, I have been reminded that Israel is undertaking pinkwashing in their propaganda, using their support of the LGBTQ community (and the myth that Palestine prosecutes queers) to promote their war effort. #NoPrideinGenocide is extremely important. Thank you, again. Every time someone tells me "What about the Israelis that died?" or "Israel has faced consequences, too" I remind them of the numbers, too. It is so important to recognize that 1,200 vs 34,000 is not an equal or proportionate "war." This is genocide, as you said. With 60% of Gaza's population under the age of 18, this is so saddening... I pray for the day that we can see a liberated Palestine. Thank you, again. ❤️❤️❤️
