Thavien's Token:

This poem was initially commented on Colleen Millsteed's "If You Had A Choice."

Most of us think about being on top of the food chain

Most of us think about being something with a complex brain

Most of us want to be something grand, like a orca whale

Most of us wouldn't want in comparisons to be pale

Most want to be big cats like tigers

Most want to be bears or gorillas as fighters

Most want to be raptors like eagles and falcons, to soar all day

Most want to be powerful without fear of becoming prey

*

Why not be a hippo, they kill a lot of men

Why not be a crocodile and do a death roll spin

Why not be a hyena, they're resistant to a lot of diseases

Why not be salt water iguana, expelling salt through Your sneezes

By Henrik Hansen on Unsplash

*

Most wouldn't want to be an earthworm, victim to the rain

Most don't want to be bobbit worms, they don't really have a brain

Most don't want to be mayflies, and only live a half-hour

Most don't want to be something that'll easily be devoured

By Viktor Talashuk on Unsplash

*

Most don't want to be a camel in the desert, having to swelter

Most don't want to be that one pet stuck in an animal shelter

Most don't want to be a polar bear, suffering to climate loss and cold

Most don't want to be a sturgeon, having their eggs served and sold

*

Most don't want to be sharks, hunted for only their fins

Most don't want to be wolf spiders, dying to feed their next of kin

Most don't want to be sloths, as they desire speed

Most don't want to be male bees who die after spreading their seed

*

Most don't want to be seahorses, as they view them as slow

Most don't want to be artic animals, at the mercy of the snow

Most don't want to be cave fish, since they don't have eyes

Most don't want to be rodents; since they're hunted from the land and skies

*

Most want to be impervious and kept from harm

Most want to be dazzling with immense amounts of charm

Most want to be something grand and mostly free of strife

Most want to be something where it's not easy to lose their own life

I enjoyed the repetition in this- it really worked well. It is interesting this need for survival and to be greater than. It costs humans and earth alot 🤍

This makes me wonder, does anyone truly want to be human? We have a mastery of tools and supposedly a superior brain, but we aren’t as fast or as strong, and we tend to cause wars over seemingly every little thing. It’s a lot of food for thought. Well done.

Great stuff. Definitely nature! Nature and commentary, goes together.

  • Great work

  • Oooo, I've never heard of wolf spiders before! Also, I wanna be a Nuckalavee 😁

👏👏👏 Wow! This amazing, Thavien! Simply beautiful and tragic! You took my mind on a bumpy ride, and I enjoyed it! Thank you for crafting this. I love animals and rarely entertain the concept of transmigration. It leaves me wondering about the lives these animals lead day in and day out. Poor mayflies...😟
