Villainous

A Poem

The thing about monsters is that they are real.

They hide in plain sight, and your essence, they steal.

Books that you read when you were just a child;

were nothing but lies, so innocent and mild.

Come to understand the villains in these stories;

were good people once who could have lived in glory.

But life was unjust and treated them unkindly;

so they embraced the role of the villain so fondly.

When life knocks you down so many times in a row;

itโ€™s hard to be the hero that we all come to know.

Even the best people can build a wall around their hearts;

so high that nobody could tear it apart.

When youโ€™re left all alone and your thoughts you conceal;

the villain inside you becomes all too real.
