when I was young I was afraid
for the thunder shook my body
now I’m old and still afraid
for the solitude shakes my soul
my heart is slow
lumbering through its exercises
and sometimes in the night
when there’s no one else
I feel that I’m dying
which I know is true
that doesn't make it easier
that fact doesn't lull me to sleep
they put old dogs to sleep
yes, the day is late in coming
and I am afraid
About the Creator
Christopher Francis
I began writing as a child, continued as an adult and worked briefly as a professional. Literature and music were and are my passions. Then life got in the way. Now, at 66 they have returned and I am giving them my full attention. Ta da.
