Unconditionally

Poetry

I've done everything I can,

to make you see the real me.

The ugly, the bad,

the incarnation of beauty

that's reflected upon my face.

At the of the day,

your smile is still frozen,

waiting for my next mistake to kill you.

I've dragged you out into a desert of your darkest fears,

abandoned you at your weakest

and held you when you passed a test,

then sucked the life out of you,

with the door slamming behind me every time.

And you're still standing.

Your eyes penetrating the tired soul that's always been yours.

You let me scream into your ears,

with every intention of making you bleed,

because it's what you need to keep your heart beating.

Your eager lips somehow erase my spiteful words,

and make me breathe again.

In and out, in and out.

The sound of my racing doubts beneath your fingertips,

it's what you'll die for,

live for,

kiss for,

always unconditionally.
