Our voices shattered
Against glass
And metal bars,
Fitting through edges
And sneaking through cracks
But achieving mute-
We were pebbles
Against a barricade
That refused to lower
Itself to the common-
We were the wheels
And the gears
The chains moving along,
Just another day
The mantra of a unit
The slogan
Of a falling nation
Just another day
Just another brick
Just another pebble
Wishing to shatter
The norms and ideals
Set forth
By the handful
Of faux gems
Speaking lies they call truths-
Voices that pretend
To care and notice
The dwindling moral
Of a community
That has been ‘silent’
For too long-
The pebbles are ready
To shatter the stems
Upon which the uppers
Are precariously balanced-
The pebbles are ready
To thrust rust into the gears
Keeping this ship
Afloat.
All crash down.
