To the River

Let us float

Upon the river’s current

Following twists and turns

Through a world

We thought we knew-

New angles and visions

Opening to us,

With the twist of the wind,

The change in the breeze,

Setting us forward

On an adventure not planned

But thoroughly needed,

Dreamt about in the deepest

Spot of slumber-

An adventure within our home

That brings us back

To the roots of life,

The remembrance of days

That have passed but remain,

Where only we have changed

And not the world

We dwell in-

Bring us back

To the first steps we took

And the way we gazed

Upon a world full of promise

And possibility-

The river remembers

And pulls us with it

Towards a land of tomorrow

Where our hearts no longer ache

And our scars are healed-

To the river

To the river

We must go to the river.

    both teaching and soothing. lovely.

  • "As I went down to the river to pray, studyin' about that good ole way, & who should wear the robe & crown? Good Lord, show me the way!" To find that moment of rebirth, when we can look ahead with wonder & hope, leaving ache & regret behind. What a gift. And how quickly it perishes, that new birth, if we do not awaken each morn claiming such wonder & hope with childlike innocence & grace. Let us go, go to the river & find where it takes us.
