Tiny Perfect Soul

You were such a tiny little thing

Barely ten pounds total when your hair was long

And when you would eat

(you loved to eat so much)

Your little belly would puff up and

You were like a little football

I would tuck under my arm

I used to say you had a tiny little soul

Because you were so quiet and non-intrusive

And undemanding

In a world so full of huge souls and personalities

Constantly vying for attention

Your tiny little beingness scared me

I didn’t want you to get lost in the shuffle

Of all the rambunctious noise around you

Yet it took me until you died to realize

Your soul may have seemed tiny

But its quality was true

Like a small diamond in a promise ring

You were perfect and balanced

Your little dog soul shone with a truth

And a love

Humans could and should emulate

You taught me….

Small is good

Quiet is good

Patience is good.

Your love was good.
