The sun’s rays
Fought through fog
A wall built
Meant to be flimsy
For light to enter
And cascade through
A fragile barrier
Blocking the views
Of a brighter day,
Of a change approaching
That should be welcomed
But instead feared,
The first step
Into a beautiful oasis
That we can’t see
Through the dripping greenery,
The vegetation
That has been well hidden
By nature’s protection,
For reasons unknown
Until we realize
We hide from ourselves
From our brothers
Our sisters
To avoid detection
Avoid destruction
Of a view meant
To heal and rise up-
We hide our truths
To avoid the well known
Decay that is created
By the salt of our
Loved ones and our minds
The doubt that floods,
Flowing quicker
Than the stream that erupts
From the earth’s core
To quench our thirst
And our dying dreams,
That are turned to fireflies
That we watch in the dead of night
Their lights flickering
Dying out the longer we watch,
Turning to stagnant creatures
Because we didn’t have the urge
To chase them the way we did
When we were young
And carefree,
A light burnt out
Before we gave it time to shine.
Find the time.

Amazing, and so 'right' for this time of year.
