This Small Flower

From deep within the Earth,

A journey began with a birth,

It started with a seed,

But now a flower, finally freed,

Flourishing and reaching towards the sun,

This small flower's life had just begun.

On sunny and warm afternoon,

This small flower and all of nature sway to a perfect tune,

Nothing unusual for a day in June,

Then with a cut and split,

This small flower found itself

Picked for its beauty,

As though to look pretty was its one and only duty,

This small flower still had room to grow.

Whether or not it had much time left now,

It did not know.

It must have been a day or so,

When this small flower was bound,

Gasping for air in an overgrown crowd,

Squeezed together with other flowers,

The roar of tape sealed their fate,

There was no escape.

Packed nicely for a girl,

A young man worked up the nerve to finally say,

'I love you,

I love your eyes and lips,

Everything from your flaws to the curves at your hips.

Do you love me in return?'

'These are lovely but I cannot accept,

For you're not the one I yearn'

His poor heart broken off in all directions,

This small flower lost affection.

The final night broken and discarded,

This small flower thought back to where it started,

Petals fell just like tears,

Crumpled up like washed up hope and life-long fears,

This small flower waited,

Waited

For the end.

Waiting to be born again.
