There’s Never a Forever
A tanka trilogy on impermanence
Forever’s a lie;
a fiction we tell ourselves
to ease the terror
of the final cessation
and the grave that looms ahead.
***
Harken to the truth
that nothing lasts forever.
Prepare, but don’t fret,
for all life is transient
and impermanence rules all.
***
The clock is ticking,
and the sands are running down,
so do not assume
you will always have more time.
There’s never a forever.
