The world is haunted

The world is haunted

by lives cut short

so much unsaid

so many missed opportunities

so many good times never had

so much love unfelt

so much pain unhealed

because of the fear that this is the best there is

or that it could get so much worse

so we either cling to a blind purpose

or wander without meaning

we settle for survival

too afraid and exhausted to fight for better

ghosts exist

they walk around every day

desperate for relief from torment

they can't remember what broke them

and they are too afraid to confront it

so they haunt themselves

and hope that the end brings peace
