A villanelle

The wind in spring is a fickle friend,

It whispers secrets through the trees,

Round and round, it swirls and bends.

It's a force that we cannot pretend,

A wild spirit that never frees,

The wind in spring is a fickle friend.

It plays with clouds, and they ascend,

High above the earth, with such ease,

Round and round, it swirls and bends.

It carries scents our hearts transcend,

Aromas that bring us to our knees,

The wind in spring is a fickle friend.

It's a promise that the earth will mend,

A sign that winter's chill will cease,

Round and round, it swirls and bends.

So when you hear the wind's sweet blend,

Let it take you where it please,

The wind in spring is a fickle friend,

Round and round, it swirls and bends.
