'The Wild West' Ballad
Poppy's Prompts: January Edition
Bullet holes circled 'round the door
Dark smoke hung thickly there
Shots rang out loudly in the street
Did anybody care?
***********************
Women cried out, children clung tight
Gunslingers stood so still
Nobody knew why they did fight
Was it just for the thrill?
***********************
Saloon drinkers and barmaids ducked
Chairs tipped and crashed about
Beer spilled and crept across the floor
'Twas chaos... without doubt!
***********************
The Sheriff strode out of his house
With badge all shiny new
Right hand hovered near his pistol
Those louts would get their due!
**********************
The 'Wild West' town had woken up
It was another day
Gold fever spread like a disease
And with it... moral decay!
**********************
I thought I'd have a go at writing a little ballad about bullet holes for Poppy's extremely popular, now Top Story, "January Prompts".

I loved what you did with this prompt! Very cool little story inside the poem ❤️
Ah, watching those wild west movies. Remembering the guns on the hips. So violent, yet romantic in nature. I love your poem.
I loved the vibes of this, makes me want to go watch a western movie. The ending was especially good
