A Beautiful Life Lived

The door to the shop swung

as she walked into the cooling air

no care or worry in her mind

she had already lived most her life

the sounds of conversation

gave her elation

sitting in that house by herself had been lonely

and though her house was homey

it didn’t quite replace

the space

in her heart that good company occupied

for years her house qualified

as the main living quarters for her children and spouse

but as the years stacked on as they do

one by one her children began to pursue

their own lives

and her spouse had died some time ago

leaving her alone and a widow

so after dwelling in her sad reality for a while

she began to wonder what would now make her smile

she broke the barriers of her routine

seeking out a different scene

and eventually she had ended up at the store

it didn’t look dynamic

but the people inside were so much more

they conversed with her and laughed with her

making her forget about her woes

and though she wasn’t close

in the sense that family would be

going to the store gave her the socialization that she needed

years ago, she wouldn’t have thought that to be her life

but sometimes it’s the little things that take away the strife
